CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

Daily Procedures and Behavior

 The Day’s Aim will be posted on the board. Students are expected to copy the aim
into their notebooks first thing when they walk into the classroom.
 Every day a “Do Now” will be posted on the board. Students are expected to
independently complete the “Do Now” after writing down the Day’s Aim. NO
TALKING is allowed during this time unless otherwise instructed by the teacher.
 A monthly calendar will be posted listing upcoming tests, quizzes, and important
events such as standardized test dates, field trips, and vacation days.
 Students will raise their hands to be acknowledged.
 Personal needs, such as pencil sharpening, bathroom break, water fountain, locker,
should be taken care of before class begins.
 Only one person may leave the room at a time.
 Each student will be given three classroom passes for the semester. A student is
expected to turn in the classroom pass when they are leaving the room. After all three
passes are used, the student is not allowed to leave the room unless it is an
emergency.
 Students may bring water to class. Food, gum, and soda are NOT allowed.
 Students are expected to keep the room clean and throw away all their trash.
 The teacher dismisses the class (NOT the bell).

Grades
All students will start the class with an “A.” It is up to the individual student to keep that
“A.” 40% of the student’s grade is based on attendance, participation, class work, and
homework. This means that 40% of the student’s grade is completely in the student’s
control. The other 60% of the grade will be based on writing assignments and group
projects, quizzes, chapter tests, and final exams. Grades will be broken down as follows:
20 % Participation and attendance
15 % Homework
20 % Labs
20 % Quizzes
25 % Final Exams / Chapter Tests

You and your parents or guardians will receive a progress report every 3 weeks to keep
you aware of your class grade.

CLASSROOM RULES, CONSEQUENCES, and REWARDS

Hello! Welcome to Ms. Bailey’s Living Environment class!

In order for all students to be successful in class, there are a few rules that we all must
follow. I need every student’s cooperation in order to create an environment where all
students can have an excellent education.

To ensure a safe, equal learning space for all students, every student will be respectful of
the Classroom Rules:
1. We will come to class on time and prepared to learn.
2. We will leave food, candy and soda at home.
3. We will wait for our turn to speak while others talk.
4. We will stay focused on our academics in class.
5. We will respect ourselves, each other, and our environment.

If any student chooses to break a rule, he or she will be responsible for the following
Consequences:
First time: Name on board – warning, loss of participation points
Second time: Meet Ms. Bailey after class for conference
Third time: Lunchtime meeting, file a behavior report with Ms. Bailey
Fourth time, or Name on Board 3 times in 1 week – teacher parent conference (phone
call home)

Students who follow the Classroom Rules will be Rewarded in several ways.
 Praise (daily)
 Positive notes and calls home (at teacher’s discretion and by request)
 Will be eligible to attend Ms. Bailey’s Field Trips
 Classroom Culture Days (dependent on 95% class average on a test)
 THE JOY OF LEARNING AND BECOMING SMARTER (each day of the school
year)

I would appreciate it if you would review the classroom procedures, grades, materials,
rules and consequences with your parents or guardians before both of you sign and return
the attached form. Thank you for your cooperation. I look forward to a wonderful year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Bailey
