Cool music plays on Angelas laptop. Angela and Jon kneel on the bed looking into each others eyes with their foreheads touching. They hold hands. They smile at each other. Angela starts to roll her head side to side maintaining contact and keeping her eyes on Jon the whole time. She takes a deep inhale and lets out a sigh. Hi. Hi. You are. ANGELA JON ANGELA

She nods her head, Yes. YOU are. JON

Angela laughs. Jon kisses her. They make out for a moment. Angela throws her head back in ecstacy. She hits the bed frame. Ow! JON (CONTD)

Jon grabs his own head. Angela laughs and touches his head. Are you O.K.? Ahhh. ANGELA JON

He kisses the top of her head. He kisses her shoulder and then wraps his arms around her and hugs her from behind. His chin is on her shoulder. The music continues. FADE OUT. FADE IN: 2 EXT. UNION STREET DOCKS FAIRHAVEN -- MORNING 2

The day is beginning on the waterfront in Fairhaven. The fishing boats are getting ready to get out for the day. Jon hustles down the dock to his boat. He is greeted by the crew. 3 EXT. UNION STREET DOCKS FAIRHAVEN -- MOMENTS LATER Jon's boat heads out for the day. docks. Jon looks back at the 3

FADE OUT The music fades as the sounds of a super market come in. FADE IN: 4 INT. SUPER STOP AND SHOP -- DAY 4

It's a weekday afternoon - the store is not crowded. SAM pushes the carriage. His ten year old daughter, CARA, rides on the end of the carriage. Jon walks along next to them as Sam shops. JON So, they do the whole bit. They show the highschool footage, say how he was fifth string at Michigan... I love that. SAM

JON And they got the highlights going while they're talking... Nice. SAM

Cara reaches for a sugar cereal. (CONTINUED)

JON Right, so Mike Wallace says to him..... SAM Oh, I'm psyched I got that. JON I know that was good. But Mike Wallace says to him. Cara reaches in one of the bags and pulls out the granola bars. JON He said, I've dreamed about this since I was a little kid in my back yard. And now that it's all happened I think to myself is this it? There's gotta be something more than this. SAM Yeah? Cara, don't open those now. JON Can you believe that? I need to. CARA

SAM Yeah, that's great. Cara, just wait till we get home, O.K. CARA Just let me. Mom does. Sam opens a granola bar for Cara. 6 INT. SAM'S CAR -- MOVING -- MOMENTS LATER Cara is in the back seat. passenger seat. Sam drives. Jon is in the 6

They drive by the high school football stadium. The team is on the field practicing. Jon sees this as they pass. SAM (CONTD) I feel bad I haven't called him yet but, you know, I haven't really talked to him so I thought it'd be weird to just call him out of the blue and say, "I heard your dad died." JON Yeah, you'll see him tomorrow. (CONTINUED)

JON I feel like walking. 7 EXT. STREET -- CONTINUOUS The car pulls over. Jon jumps out. He makes a face at Cara. JON Bye, Banana Head. CARA Bye, Cookah Burrah! Sam leans across the seat. SAM Hey, are you seeing the hippy chick tonight? JON Youre so judgemental. SAM Is tonight the laughter class!? Later, man. JON 7

Jon walks down the street as Sam pulls away. 8 EXT. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIELD -- DAY Jon stands outside the chain link fence in the parking lot watching the team practice from a distance. 9 EXT. FAIRHAVEN STREETS -- AFTERNOON Jon walks along the streets of Fairhaven by the waterfront. 9 8

Fairhaven - 5.25.10 10 INT. MADELYN'S -- AFTERNOON Madelyn's is the down home seafood restaurant on the harbor. Jon sits finishing his meal. MADDY stands behind the counter filling salt shakers. MADDY What are you gonna do for work? JON Dont worry about it, Mom. MADDY I do worry about it. Most people line up another job before they quit something JON Well, Im not most people. MADDY Tell me about it. The basements rented out so.... JON Im not moving back into the basement dont worry about it. She clears his plate. MADDY When does Davey get to town? Tomorrow. JON

Sara continues on to her table. Maddy smiles at Jon. What? JON (CONTD)

MADDY Cute little ass too. Jon laughs as he gets up. Jesus Christ. What? JON MADDY * * * * *

JON Thanks for dinner, mom. Jon starts to go. MADDY Im just saying. JON I know you are. MADDY What? Id like some grand children at some point. JON Well, you should have had more kids. What do you want me to tell ya? He smiles as he goes. She shakes her head. Jon exits. We linger on Maddy a second while she greets a customer. We hear loud forced laughter under the scene.

Fairhaven - 5.25.10 11 INT. LAUGHTER WORKSHOP -- AFTERNOON

A room full of people sitting cross legged on yoga mats loudly pretend laughing. We see Jon in the back of the room with an uncomfortable grin on trying to play along. Angela walks the room instructing. 12 INT. LAUGHTER WORKSHOP -- LATER The group has broken up into groups of two. They sit cross-legged on the floor facing each other with their eyes closed. Jon sits across from an OLDER WOMAN. She is very comfortable with the exercise. She looks at him with a wide grin. ANGELA Now, I want you to continue looking directly into your partners eyes and say the things about yourself that you think are unlovable. Those things that you think make you unworthy of love. JON How much time do you have? The woman doesn't respond. She just keeps smiling at Jon. JON (CONTD) Wow, this is a bit intimate huh? Isn't it? It's a little intimate. Yes. WOMAN 12

ANGELA And the person who is receiving just try to be the receptacle without reacting or nodding. Just be present with what's being said. JON So, you want me to start then? Mm hmm. WOMAN

I mean, I guess that's not necessarily bad but... I don't know maybe if that was my only bad quality I'd be more O.K. with it but I'm also kinda.... pale and hairy. Which... The woman continues to stare at him with a wide grin. JON (CONTD) God. What the hell am I talking about? Sorry. Thats right you cant respond. Youre very good at this. Its funny though how these little superficial seemingly, like silly things really affect how I see myself in the world or whatever, you know....I guess I've just never been comfortable with myself. I've always wanted to be other people. Silence. JON (CONTD) Wow. We're really losing the whole laughter element of this aren't we.

The workshop is over. People are dispersing. There are a few people talking to Angela. Jon stands a few feet away waiting for her. Jon's partner, the older woman, gives her a hug and walks away. The woman smiles at Jon as she passes him. JON Good night. Nice to....working with you. Angela waves Jon over. He goes towards her as a LONGHAIRED BLONDE GUY approaches Angela with his hands in front of his heart in prayer position. Angela smiles at him and takes Jon's elbow. Namaste. MAN

The man just stares at her and smiles. Angela smiles back still holding onto Jon's arm. The man hugs Angela. Jon's arm gets entangled in the hug. He tries to disentangle himself at first but the other two don't seem to notice so he tries to just wait out the hug. It goes on for what seems like an eternity to Jon. He looks away. A couple people look over and smile as they leave. Jon nods to them still ensnared. The hug finally ends and he quickly untangles his arm. Angela and the man don't even notice. 14 EXT. OUTSIDE THE WORKSHOP -- EVENING Jon and Angela walk out of the building and down the steps towards the parking lot. ANGELA Well, I'm glad you liked it. I did like it. JON 14

ANGELA I thought you might be too freaked out by it. JON Oh, I was completely freaked out by it. But I.... Oh, I'm sorry. ANGELA

JON No, no, thats why Im here. Angela smiles. They have reached the parking lot. Angela's car. They stand by

JON (CONTD) That was...that was fun the other night with you. I mean, not the...I mean, that part was fun too, but I meant, the.....the entirety of the...you know what I mean. (CONTINUED)

She gives him a flirty smile and opens the car door. JON (motions to his car) Oh, but I...... ANGELA You can leave your car here. She gets in the car. Jon gets in the passenger side. 15 INT. ANGELA'S HOUSE -- NIGHT Jon is in the living room playing with the Lingham on Angelas mantle. Angela is in the kitchen making tea. ANGELA No, its not openness like sleeping around..... JON Right. No, I... ANGELA Its like openness with your partner. Like being completely open about everything. Nice. JON 15

ANGELA And if you have impulses or desires to be with other people its talked about before hand in a really structured way.

Jon nods as if he knows the word. JON (CONTD) I like what youre saying though cause, I dont know, for me I've never really felt comfortable in any sort of standard relationship but I always just assumed there was something wrong with me. ANGELA Why? Because youre not clinging to some old ideal out of fear? Jon smiles. ANGELA (CONTD) Theres nothing wrong with you. Youre just being true to yourself. They look at each other. JON Oh, yeah. Lets do it. Angela gets up and gets pillows from the couch. ANGELA O.K. Just sit up on the pillow. Jon puts the pillow underneath himself. up. His knees stick

JON Maybe one more. She hands him another pillow. Perfect. JON (CONTD)

ANGELA O.K. close your eyes and take few deep breaths. Watch your breath as it moves in and out your nostrils. Notice the thoughts in your head and let go. Just breath the thoughts

Jon closes his eyes and begins to meditate again as we PULL BACK to see that he has a raging hard on. 16 EXT. FORT PHOENIX -- DAY Jon sits on the hood of his car in the vast and empty beach parking lot. Dave's car pulls in. Jon gets up to greet him. Jon waits awkwardly for Dave to get out of the car. When he finally gets out of the car, they greet each other and Dave says something funny that makes Jon laugh. 17 EXT. FORT PHOENIX -- DAY Dave and Jon walk the hurricane barrier. JON I mean, the guy is 30 years old right? And...... DAVE I thought he was thirty two? 17 * * * * * * 16

Sam is at his desk on the phone. Its a rinky dink real estate office with cheesy house pictures on the wall and fake plants. Jon comes in the door followed by Dave. (CONTINUED)

Dave continues looking at the picture. Jon wanders over and sits in a chair in the waiting area. SAM (O.S.) No, but can you understand their side of it? Dave goes and sits next to Jon as Sam continues. SAM (O.S.) (CONTD) Right, right... Charles. Listen I am on your side. Dave motions to ANOTHER REAL ESTATE AGENT on the phone. INT. CHURCH -- DAY Dave's father's funeral. About fifteen people are there in the huge church. The PRIEST does the Eulogy. Dave and his mom are towards the front next to LORRAINE and THE GIRLS. Maddy is there with a few people from town. Some Portuguese fishermen are next to them. Sam is towards the back with Kate and Steve and Cara. keeps looking back for Jon who is noticeably absent.

After a moment the door in the back of the church opens and Jon slips into the pew behind Sam. Jon is cleanshaven and wears a suit. They nod to each other. Dave turns and he and Jon share a moment. INT. CHURCH -- LATER The service is ending. A woman sings, "On Eagles Wings" from the balcony as Dave and three of the workers from the funeral home attempt to carry the coffin out. They struggle. Jon and Sam quickly come up front to help. The hymn continues as the boys lead the procession out of the church. Bright daylight pours into the church as the coffin goes out the door. 73 INT. DAVE'S HOUSE -- AFTERNOON The funeral reception. Dave's mom carries a tray of lasagna out to the buffet table. She passes Sam and Jon. (CONTINUED) 73

There is a group of Portuguese fishermen talking to each other looking uncomfortable in their nice clothes. Dave chats with Lorraine and the girls. He takes their plates and brings them into the kitchen. A NEIGHBOR is filling a cooler with ice. Dave nods to her as he pats a dog that wanders into the kitchen. 74 INT. DAVES HOUSE -- LATER Sam and Jon talk by the window. SAM Yeah, she bartends there on Fridays. Well have to go. Her folks live in Wareham right near Kathy Moriarty. Dave is upstairs sitting on the edge of his moms bed. She lays down. They speak Portuguese to each other. He kisses her forehead and walks out into the hall shutting the door.

Dave comes down the stairs. Sam is asleep on the couch. Jon is doing the dishes. Dave takes a walk through the debris of the party. He takes a blanket off of a chair and puts it over Sam. He then picks up a few glasses and walks into the kitchen. 80 INT. KITCHEN -- CONTINUOUS Dave puts the glasses on the counter and leans against the table. Jon gives him a nod. JON Your mom sleeping? DAVE Yeah. Everybodys sleeping around here. JON I know. Did you see him out there? Out cold. DAVE 80

They stand their a moment. Hey, umm..... No worries. JON DAVE

Dave stares out the window. Jon goes back to the dishes. Sam sleepily lumbers into the kitchen and sits at the table with Dave. He rises. DAVE

Dave continues looking out the window. Sam rubs his eyes and sits back in his chair. Jon begins drying the dishes. Sam looks at Dave. Dave continues looking out the window. Sam puts an arm on Daves shoulder. Dave looks at him and smiles for a moment. Sam keeps his hand on Daves shoulder. Jon turns and notices. He folds the dish towel and leans back against the sink facing the guys. SAM Daveys last night. Thats right. JON

DAVE Yup. You guys are gonna miss me. SAM No, Im saying its your last night. I think we gotta put the rally caps on. Really? DAVE

JON Theres no way. I cant go out. Im still drunk from last night. SAM We might not see this guy for another seven years. DAVE No, Ill be around. Sam looks at Jon. SAM Im not saying we have a night like last night. Just a quiet night a couple of drinks. JON Oh, I see where this is going. Yeah, you know what this is about, Davey? What? DAVE
