Quality Assurance A. Reference Codes and Standards: Comply with applicable Saudi Aramco Standards, Codes and Standards as specified herein and listed in Section 15001. The manufacturer shall, upon request, furnish a certificate of inspection stating that the material has been manufactured, sampled, tested, and inspected in accordance with this specification, and has been found to meet the requirements. Inspection: Inform Saudi Aramco Representative of approved duct erection schedule so that he may observe ductwork during fabrication, and inspect all ductwork installation. Ductwork shall not be concealed in any manner prior to inspection by Saudi Aramco Representative. All ductwork shall be clear from visual imperfections, including pitting, oil canning, stains and discoloration. E. Ductwork which shows visual imperfections, including pitting, oil canning, stains and discoloration, shall be returned to the manufacturer for free replacement as long as the consignment/delivery note has not been signed by the contractors representative. Contractor will be responsible for the quality of ductwork after the consignment/delivery note is signed, and that includes damaged ducts due to mishandling, improper storing, etc.

duct sizes and details of construction shall conform to the latest edition of SMACNA, HVAC Duct Construction Standards. 2. Duct Fittings: Rectangular Duct: all changes in duct size or elevation, tee connections, connections for grilles, registers or diffusers, transition for elbows, casings, etc. shall be fabricated in accordance with Section 2 of SMACNA HVAC Duct Construction Standards. Unless otherwise noted on the Drawing, no mitered fittings will be allowed.

Spiral Ductwork- Double Wall Construction: 1. Circular supply ductwork in basketball court in recreation buildings shall be spiral with double wall construction. Double wall duct and fittings shall consist of a solid inner liner, a 25mm, 24kg/m3 (1inch, 1.50 lb/ft3 unless otherwise specified) layer of fiberglass insulation and a solid outer pressure shell. For 25mm (1-inch) thick insulation, the outer pressure shell diameter shall be 50mm (2 inches) larger than the inner liner. Ductwork shall be constructed in the sizes and configuration as shown on the Drawings. Sheet metal gauges corresponding to duct sizes and details of construction shall conform to the latest edition of SMACNA, HVAC Duct Construction standards. The duct system shall consist of double lipped rubber gasketed fittings that are factory fabricated. Alternative methods to join the spiral ductwork may be submitted for Saudi Aramco approval. Fiberglass insulation shall have a maximum conductivity factor (K) of 0.038 w/m.C at 24C mean ambient temperature (0.26 BTU-in/hr ft2 F at 75F mean ambient temperature). All fittings shall be factory fabricated and calibrated to manufacturers published dimensional tolerance standards. When contract documents require divided flow fittings, full body fittings shall be used as frequent as possible and to minimize the double wall saddle taps. All double wall duct and fittings shall be furnished with both an inner liner and a outer pressure shell coupling. Duct system performance shall meet SMACNAs Leakage Class 3 requirement. In the case the use of an alternate method as discussed in Para. 4 result in a less stringent leakage Class, Saudi Aramco prior approval should be obtained.

Access Doors: 1. General: Access doors are to be installed in ducts, casings, and housings as specified below. Unless otherwise noted on the Drawing, access doors are to be made of same material as ducts, casings, or housings in which they are installed. Insulate or line access door with an equal amount of insulation as required for the ductwork or housings in which they are installed. 2. Access Doors for Rectangular Ducts: a. Access doors shall be installed in ducts at each fire damper, fan, air flow measuring station, and any ductmounted instrumentation. Access doors shall be installed in the largest duct side unless this location provides poor access or is obstructed by surrounding conditions. Doors shall be furnished in accordance with SMACNA, HVAC Duct Construction Standard, Fig. 2-1 and the Drawings typical details. Access doors shall comply with section 1006(b) of 1991 Uniform Mechanical Code.

Flexible Connections: 1. Duct connections to fans, joints between ferrous and non-ferrous metals for locations as shown on the Drawings shall be provided with a fire retardant, flexible connection, unless specifically noted otherwise. For indoor and outdoor service, material shall be Ventiglas, manufactured by Ventfabrics, inc. or an approved equal. Material shall consist of a heavy glass fabric, coated on both sides with neoprene. Flexible connections shall be installed with a minimum 25mm (1 inch) slack in the material. Braided copper jumpers shall be furnished around the connections to provide for continuous electrical grounding. Contractor is to attach jumpers to the ductwork in such a manner as not to bind the flexible connection.

Sealants: Duct joint sealer shall be fast-setting, thixotropic paste that remains flexible after drying. Product is to be Fosters 32-14 DUCT SEALANT; United Sheet Metals DUCT-SEAL, or approved equal. Duct Connections to Equipment: Duct Connections to air conditioning equipment shall be angle reinforced, flanged connections secured by 10 mm. dia. Bolts on 305mm centers (maximum). Materials A. Sheet Metal: 1. Galvanized Steel Sheet: Material shall be lock forming quality (LFQ), with minimum galvanized coating of 90g per square meter for both sides of a sheet. ASTM A653/A653M and ASTM A924/A924M, Coating Designation G90. 2. For kitchen hood exhaust duct use sheet metal stainless steel 18 gauge all joints seams are to be continuously welded externally and made liquid tight as per NFPA 96 and IMC.

Fasteners: 1. Steel Ductwork: Unless otherwise noted, all screwed fasteners used in galvanized ductwork shall be constructed or cadmium plated or galvanized steel. All riveted connections in galvanized ductwork must be made with 5mm. dia. Steel pop rivets or flathead, tinned iron rivets. Rivets and fasteners used in stainless steel ductwork shall be stainless steel.

General: Provide only to join duct collar to round necks of outlets and inlets. Bends greater than 90 degree are not allowed. Length longer than 1.5m (4.9 ft) shall not be allowed. Factory fabricated assembly consisting of corrosion resistant spring steel helix, nonperforated inner liner, wrapped with nominal 25mm thick fiberglass insulation with thermal conductivity of 0.0331 W/m-K.(0.23 Btu/hr.-sq. ft. - F). Assembly sheathed in vapor barrier jacket, factory sealed at both ends of each section, where horizontal support is required, flexible duct shall be suspended with minimum 19mm side flat banding material. All connections to be sheet metal secured with 13mm wide positive locking steel straps. Flexible ducts shall be installed with minimum of R/D (Radius/Diameter) of 1.5. Flexible ductwork shall have a flame spread rating of not more than 25 and a smoke developed rating of not more than 50.
PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 Installation A. Install ducts in a neat and workmanlike manner at locations shown on the Drawings and approved shop drawings. If interferences occur which require changes in locations, size, or design of the ductwork, such changes are to be made only after approval by Saudi Aramco. Ducts are to be independently supported from building structure only, and not from other equipment or other equipment supports unless specifically shown on the Drawings or approved by Saudi Aramco Representative at no additional cost to Saudi Aramco. Any deviations from the Drawings and Specifications concerning duct construction, duct routing or duct support systems committed by the Contractor, without Saudi Aramco Representatives prior approval, shall be removed and replaced with approved material or methods at Contractors expense, if so directed by Saudi Aramco Representative. Exposed ductwork shall be painted. Paint Color shall be agreed upon with Saudi Aramco Representative. Damage materials and defective WORK, or non-compliance with these Specifications shall be repaired, removed and replaced as directed by Saudi Aramco Representative at no additional cost to Saudi Aramco.
