Why Med ordered:
Dry eyes associated with Macular Degeneration.
Mechanism of action and indications:
Keep the eyes moist with isotonic solution and wetting discomfort.
agents in the management of dry eyes due to lack of
tears.
Interactions with other patient drugs, OTC or
herbal medicines (ask patient specifically):
None noted
Contraindications/warnings/interactions:
Hypersensitivity, eye discomfort.
Common side effects:
Photophobia, lid edema, temporarily blurred vision, eye
Lab value alterations caused by medicine:
None noted.
Be sure to teach the patient the following about this
medication:
Wash hands before administration.
Avoid touching cap or tip of container to eyes, fingers, or
any surface. Lie down or tilt head back and look at ceiling.
Keep eyes closed 1-2 minutes. Roll eyeballs around in all
directions with eyes closed.
