Glycerol Suppositories BP

Please read this leaflet carefully before using this medicine. It is a summary of the
information available for this medicine. You should ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are
unsure about any aspect of this medicine.

What is in your medicine?

The name of your medicine is Glycerol Suppositories BP. The active ingredient is Glycerol
70.0% w/w. Other ingredients are Gelatin and Purified Water. Glycerol Suppositories BP are
supplied in packs containing 12 x 4g suppositories (Adults), 12 x 2g (Children),
12 x 1g (Infants).

What is your medicine for?

Glycerol belongs to a group of medicines which due to its mildly irritating action promotes the
emptying of the bowels.

Glycerol Suppositories are used as a laxative for short term treatment of constipation.

Before your medicine is used

Before use you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if:

• You know you are sensitive to any of the above ingredients .


• You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast feeding.
Avoid use during the first three months of pregnancy.

Do not use glycerol suppositories if you believe you have an intestinal blockage.

Prolonged use of Glycerol Suppositories is not recommended. If your symptoms persist


consult your doctor.

How is your medicine used?

Always follow the instruction of your doctor or pharmacist.

To remove a suppository, tear one from the strip along the perforations then
peel it from the plastic wrapping by grasping the two halves of the wrapping
at the tip of the suppository and pulling them gently apart.

Glycerol Suppositories should not be swallowed

Adults/Children/Infants

Adults: One 4g suppository


Children's supoository size: One 2g suppository
Infant's suopository size: One 1g suppository

Moisten the tip of the suppository before use and insert into the rectum (Back passage).

Glycerol Suppositories should not be swallowed. However the likelihood of any harm being
caused is small. If you do feel unwell contact your doctor taking the carton with you.

After your medicine has been used

Glycerol Suppositories can sometimes cause side effects although these are usually minor,
and may include stomach cramp. If you do have stomach cramps or any unusual or
unexpected effects stop using the product and contact your doctor.

Storing your medicine

This product has an expiry date printed on the carton and strip of suppositories. Any product
that has passed this date should be returned to a pharmacist or doctor for safe disposal. Do
not store your suppositories above 25°C and keep in the carton. Keep out of reach and sight
of children.
