Carolling is an old tradition. Groups of people, friends or family, would
go outside to sing Christmas Carols to their neighbours. They carry a
candle to light their way and the song words! It is not a protest.
In Australia, where Christmas is hot, there is a tradition of, Carols by
Candlelight, concerts which are held outdoors at night in the big cities
on Christmas Eve. People in the audience hold lit candles and sing
along with the celebrities on some of the carols.
