K-YAN launched in Myanmar: We forayed into South East Asia with the launch of K-Class in Myanmar. We were asked by one of the leading philanthropic organisations in Myanmar, The HTOO Foundation, to do a pilot of the K-Class solution for schools in Myanmar. After shipping the first 20 units of the K-Yan, the IETS team successfully conducted a training of over 20 teachers in Yangon. We also conducted a live training in a class using our K-Class content and the entire solution was very well received. After this pilot, discussions are now on for increasing pilot to schools beyond Yangon. IL&FS Education signed the agreement for setting up the Knowledge Resource Cluster at Bolangir, Odisha : The KRC is a pioneering project in Public Private Partnership (PPP) on a hub and spoke model, with co-investment by both the Government of Odisha and IETS. It is an integrated model to set up a K-12 School and a Skills School with residential facilities at the Hub. The K-12 school will have a capacity of 1580 students, 25% of whom will be provided education free of cost. The Multi skills school will have a capacity for about 2000 trainees per annum. In addition, residential facilities for about 710 students of the KRC will be provided. The Hub will provide mentoring services to spokes i.e. existing government schools in the district, skill training institutions and the community at large. It will also help build business linkages for other verticals of IETS such as agri, health, e-governance etc and going forward for other group companies of IL&FS as well. IL&FS Education and Intel entered an agreement with Intel Education Solutions Worldwide IL&FS Education and Intel entered an agreement wherein K-Yan has been made part of the Intel Education Solutions worldwide. The Intel global sales team will be able to offer the K-Yan as part of their educational products as a teaching device. Our solutions may also be bundled with the student devices including netbooks and tablets, with the K-Yan.

Skills for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Developing Asia-Pacific: An International Forum, ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines : 9 December 2013 - 12 December 2013 Mr. RCM Reddy, Managing Director and CEO IL&FS Skills and Chairman FICCI Skills Development Forum (SDF) presented about Public Private Partnership (PPP) models in skills development space. He shared about the experience of IL&FS group in using the model for creating a large scale impact. His presentation included recommendations for cocreating an employment linked skills development model with technology as the base across Asia and Africa.
Rt. Hon Dr Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills visited IL&FS Institute of Skills (IIS), Palladam. Dr Cable applauded the active partnerships between India and UK to promote skills development. In India for the Joint Economic & Trade Committee (JETCO) roundtable, the minister visited the IL&FS Institute of Skills (IIS), Palladam, Coimbatore. Situated within the Palladam Hi-Tech Weaving park, this centre is a unique skills institute offering placement linked skills programmes to youth in multiple skills. He was happy to note that more than 15 UK institutions are working with IL&FS Skills to promote quality skills programme. Dr Cable interacted with students of the centre, private industry and training providers at the park. He was accompanied by a senior delegation of UK providers. IL&FS Skills launched its first overseas placement programme with OGM Technical Institute (www.ogmti.com.au) and VETASSESS OGM Technical Institute is registered in Australia and has entered into partnerships with Australian TAFE Institutions to deliver Australian skills in international markets. OGM Technical Institute has three partners in three cities of India Gurgaon, Chandigarh and Kollam. The Gurgaon center is for the mining industry and they have created a simulated mine. The partnership with IL&FS is considering developing an accredited and qualified skilled workforce covering trade skill areas, to start initially offering with the following courses: Welding, Pipe Fitting, Diesel Motor Mechanic. The partnership involves 2 pilot batches in IIS Delhi and IIS Chennai comprising of 30 welders/ pipe fitters who would be trained for next 6 months by 2 trainers from Australia, who will handhold the whole program including marketing, training and placement. We will also work towards making IIS Delhi as a VETASSESS testing center for persons migrating to Australia. Mr. P Chidambaram, Honble Finance Minister of India inaugurated the Alagappa University IL&FS Institute of Skills (AU-IIS). AU- IIS is Indias first skill development institute where the students would receive dual certification from Alagappa University and Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) on completion. He was joined by Mr Ravi Parthasarthy, Chairman, IL&FS Group and Mr. Kaliyamoorthy, Acting Vice Chancellor and Mr Dharmesh Sodha, CEO Gems and Jewellery Council of India. The training programme is aligned to the National Occupational Standards (NOS). This will also enable trainees to explore job opportunities in domestic as well as overseas companies. The Honble Finance Minister interacted with the first batch of 152 students and re-iterated the importance of standards for quality of the training programme. He also shared with them regarding the STAR scheme, which was launched on August 17 by his ministry to support youth with a reward of Rs 10,000 to Rs. 15000 such that they can take advantage of these training facilities. Your vision should be to work hard to become best welders, electricians and tradesmen., he said. Such programmes aim at creating a global workforce which will also mean that while students acquire the right skill, they also need to pay attention to the value added programmes in English language, digital literacy and Life skills.

Global Economic Summit, Mumbai IL&FS Clusters supported the Global Economic Summit (GES), an annual forum organized by the All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and World Trade Centre (WTC), Mumbai as the Knowledge Partner. The summit was attended by delegations from several countries and issues pertaining to quality, competitiveness and employment generation were discussed. Dr A K Krishnakumar, Executive Director, IL&FS Clusters led the senior panels and also articulated the preface to the report launched. We also contributed in form of an article which explains the need for improved cluster development initiatives. IL&FS Clusters Initiatives in Electronics Manufacturing and Tooling Sectors IL&FS Clusters expanded its sectoral outreach and initiated projects in electronics manufacturing and tooling sectors. Both the sectors are very high potential and will impact the economic growth of India. At present we are working to set up four greenfield and two brownfield facilities in these sectors. The mandates have also led to strategic tie ups with associations such as Indian Electronics & Semiconductors Association, Tool & Gauge Manufacturers Association amongst others. IL&FS Clusters signed an MoU with Research and Information System (RIS) IL&FS Clusters has signed an MoU with Research and Information System (RIS) for Developing Countries to work together to capture the impact and case studies of cluster based interventions which are innovative in nature in MSME clusters. This knowledge can be shared with other developing countries.
World Bank Research Paper praises IL&FS Clusters World Bank published a research paper titled, 'The Implementation of Industrial parks: some lessons learned in India'. The paper analysed Scheme for Integrated Textiles Park (SITP) and termed it as a successful model. A major factor for the success of the Scheme was attributed to IL&FS Clusters being the PMC for the scheme. The efforts of IL&SF clusters were acknowledged and best practices were captured in detail.
