for Ultrasonic Testing on Duplex Stainless Steel Piping Material Welding Procedure Qualification
Ultrasonic testing has been performed using angled compression wave technique and results are as follows:
Reference Block : Reference block from 10 x 21.3 WT , 8 x 18.3 WT, 6 x 14.3 WT Duplex Stainless Steel pipe Material Type : UNS S31803 Project : Skarv SPC - EPC & Associated Service Date of Inspection : 28.07.08 - 30.07.08 Location : Burntisland Fabrication Ltd UT Technique : Angled Compression Wave

DAC curve was not able to optimize the echo response from side drill hole of 6x 14.3mmWT reference block due to the following reason, The available transducers shoes are shaped to suit diameter 8, so separate set of transducer need to be arrange for 6 diameter.
Even we have tried with this transducer to develop DAC for 6x 14.3mmWT reference block, and we have got reasonable response, but still need to be optimize the echo response with suitable shoe shape to suit 6 diameter. 6 x 14.3 WT Reference Block Transducer TAC 45 4MHz TAC 60 4MHz TAC 70 4MHz Based on back surface echo by SHEAR WAVE 15.5 16.2 16.7 Beam path Based on side drilled hole by COMPRESSION WAVE T T T 15.1 21.4 31.3 10.2 14.4 21.1 5.1 7.2 10.5 Expected First back wall echo from SHEAR WAVE 28.3 29.6 30.5 (Note -1) First back echo from side drilled hole by COMPRESSION WAVE T T T 15.1 21.4 31.3

6. Status of Procedure Qualification (PQR) of 10 dia of 625 clad ASTM A350 LF2 to Duplex ( Procedure no. WPS 04)
Welding was completed on 29.07.08, and visually inspected and found satisfactory. BiFab planning to perform NDT ( RT & PT) on 30.07.08. Once NDT result s are satisfied, test coupon will be sent Bodycote for mechanical test. PQR was performed very professional way by BiFab.
