Bistro Assistant and Work Mentor Job Description

Job Ref: wwjan14 Terms: Contract Salary: Starting Salary 16k per annum Responsible to: Bistro Manager / Team Leader Location: National Star College Hours: 5 days per week (Mon-Fri) working 45 hours per wk. Additional hours as and when required. (eg Mothering Sunday, Easter Sunday and 2 Saturdays in 2014) Closed xmas and new year. Overall Purpose of the Role: To help manage and deliver food and drink for our partners at the National Star Bistro, to the highest quality and in line with financial requirements building upon a sustainable business model. In addition this role will also require the management of the realistic working environment for students with disabilities and special needs as well as volunteers at the Bistro to ensure that students are trained to the most relevant and best standards possible.
Whilst based at Star Bistro - this post is within The Wiggly Worm Charity and may well mean involvement in other projects by the charity such as its Street Food Truck, Food Waste Project and its wider educational projects.

Key Responsibilities: Assist on all aspects required to serve a quality food and drink offer to customers at National Star Bistro that is in line with financial requirements and offers a sustainable business model for Wiggly Worm and its partners. Assist the Head Chef and Manager with supplier relationships and ordering for the effective delivery of the kitchen and food service areas. ssist the Head Chef and Manager in production of food and or drink for service within Star Bistro and Star Shop Implement and monitor any additional Wiggly Worm project initiatives to agreed budgets, specifications and timescales Manage and mitigate risks specifically Health and Safety and Food Safety on site as well as the protection of vulnerable young people and adults. Establish and maintain productive relationships with a wide range of partners and stakeholders Advise and liaise with CE, Manager, Head Chef and Head Office accordingly to avoid and mitigate challenges that may occur. Communicate progress regularly and effectively - both to those within the organisation and to stakeholders and partners. Contribute to the wider planning and delivery process with the organisation Provide support to the senior team of The Wiggly Worm as an when required

to daily support the input, manage and report food and drink costs, budgets, and overall takings to deliver, monitor and review subjective and objective outcomes for students and apprentices to manage the health and well being of students whilst in Bistro environment. Other requirements: This job will require an understanding that this is a project within a third sector partnership working with a unique volunteer and student workforce. The post holder should be supportive of the aims and values of the charity, have huge amounts of energy, proactive thinking and great sense of humour!

Person Specification
1.

Experience (previous roles, types and organisations)

Essential:

Proven experience of working in a senior role in a busy qaulative restaurant/bistro Effective budget management and understanding of recording and reporting daily takings including credit card and cash sales. Practical kitchen production skills Management of Food Safety Systems and Health and Safety Systems Clear Enhanced CRB Check
PTLLS qualification or willingness to work towards this.

Desirable:

An understanding or experience of all or any of the following:

Adult Education, Community Projects, Cooking Clubs, Multi Agency Projects, Food Sustainability, Local Food and Farming, Teaching, work with those with learning disabilities.

CTLLS qualification Relevant Public Health qualifications or knowledge in Nutrition / Special Diets / Food Development Special Attributes (specific job related skills)

This role is based on 48 hours per week. 25 days holiday per year including Bank Holidays. The Bistro is closed between Christmas and New Year and this accounts towards on average 6 days holiday per year. the holiday year runs January 1st to December 31st or pro rata in time of year started. Normal opening hours are Monday - Friday with additional trade days of Mothering Sunday, Easter Sunday, 8 Special Events during the year (6 in evenings and 2 on Saturdays).
