    Thelymphaticsystemisanetworkoftubesthroughoutthebodythatdrainsfluid(calledlymph) fromtissuesandemptiesitbackintothebloodstream.Themainrolesofthelymphaticsystem includemanagingthefluidlevelsinthebody,filteringoutbacteria,andhousingtypesofwhite bloodcells.Lymphisfilteredthroughthespleen,thymusandlymphnodesbeforebeingemptied intotheblood. Keeping a balance of fluid Bloodvesselstendtoseepfluidintosurroundingtissue.Thelymphaticsystemdrainsoffanyextra fluidtostopthetissuesfrompuffingup.Thefeetinparticulararepronetopuffiness. Lymphatic vessels Lymphaticvesselscriss-crosstheentirebody,exceptforthecentralnervoussystem.Some lymphaticvesselshavevalves(similartothevalvesinveins),whichstopthelymphfromrunning backthewrongway. Spleen Thespleenisinsidetheabdomen,justunderthediaphragm.Thisisoneofthefilteringorgansof theblood.Aswellasremovingmicrobes,thespleenalsodestroysoldordamagedredbloodcells. Thymus Thethymusisinsidetheribcage,justbehindthebreastbone.Thisisanotherfilteringorganofthe blood,thatcontainsmanywhitebloodcellscalledlymphocytes. Lymph nodes Lymphnodesarefoundatvariouspointsaroundthebody,includingthethroat,armpits,chest, abdomenandgroin.Alllieclosetoarteries.Bacteriapickedupfromthetissuesbythelymphare trappedinthelymphnode.Whitebloodcellscalledlymphocytescanthenattackandkillthe bacteria.Thisiswhyyourlymphnodestendtoswellifyouhaveaninfection.Virusesandcancer cellsarealsotrappedbylymphnodes. Common problems Somecommonproblemsofthelymphaticsysteminclude: Glandular fever -symptomsincludetenderlymphnodes Hodgkins disease-atypeofcancerofthelymphaticsystem Oedema-swellingcausedbytoomuchfluidinthetissues Tonsillitis-infectionofthetonsilsinthethroat.
