Vol 3 Number 1

News and views from the Anamosa Library and Learning Center DID YOU KNOW.
Sometimes you find yourself needing a scannersomething to convert that paper document or photo into an electronic form that can be emailed, posted online, etc. Most modern cell and tablet cameras are so good now that they can easily do the job. There a dozens of apps in the Apple and Android app stores, many free, for this task. One we like is Genius Scan, which can handle multiple page documents, page detection and straightening, and a variety of output formats including standard pdf and email. Free.

WOO HOO! SANTA BROUGHT AN IPAD! NOW WHAT?

So you were lucky enough to receive a tablet or e-reader device for Christmas. But what if you dont have a tech-savvy friend or family member who can help you figure out this new toy? The library can help! We hold tech help sessions each Wednesday at 2:30 in the Program Room. Our first session after the holidays will be January 8th. Due to anticipated demand, our session on the 8th will be a general discussion about devices and what you can do with them. We are most experienced with Apple products, but all devices (and their owners!) are welcome. If you need individual help with setting up your new device, please make an appointment and wed be happy to schedule a time to give you a hand.

I found myself wanting a phone call myself! Who doesn't want another opportunity to talk to those we love one more time? I was so caught up in the "what if" part that I almost missed considering why this is happening. I believe when you discover the "why" it will make you question why we all try to "fix" things, never considering the outcome, only that we think it will be better. But will it? Is it because of faith or desperation that we attempt these things? Check out Mr. Albom's latest, "First Phone Call from Heaven."

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

Winter is not a season, it's an occupation.

Sinclair Lewis

WINTER FUN
Tired of the same old snowmen? Want to brighten up your yard? After you have built that great snowman or snowwoman give your children a spray bottle of colored water. Let them spray clothes on your snow figure. Want to have some fun tower building in the snow? Set out containers of water overnight. The next day use your frozen creations and build towers and houses using snow for the mortar. Too cold to play outside? Have an indoor picnic! Pack up your picnic basket, put a blanket on the floor and have the children tell you what they miss about summer.
