CEPS Roundtable Series Tuesday, November 19th


Come learn about the Center for Ethics and Public Services antipoverty, civil rights, and nonprofit programs, including the Historic Black Church Program, the Community Education Project, the Community Research Project, the Environmental Justice Project, the Oral History Documentary Film Project, and the Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program. 12:30-2pm in D201. Give Miami Day Wednesday, November 22nd

2014-2015 Fulbright-Clinton Fellowships


Fulbright-Clinton Fellowship provides opportunities for U.S. citizens to serve in professional placements in a foreign government ministry or institution in partner governments. Fulbright-Clinton Fellows function in a special assistant role for a senior level official. The goal of the professional placements is to build the Fellows knowledge and skills, provide support to partner country institutions, and promote long-term ties between the U.S. and the partner country. Applications are now open and are due by January 10, 2014.

Affordable Care Act Panel Tuesday, November 19th


What are the implications of the new health care law? The Miami Law Health Law Association will be hosting a panel discussion about the Affordable Care Act featuring a variety of experts. Distinguished panels include Andrea M. Ferrari and Albert Chip Hutzler of Healthcare Appraisers, Inc.; Miami Law Professor Frances R. Hill; and Alan Lash, partner of Lash & Goldberg. 1:30-2pm in Miami Law Multipurpose Room at the Student Activities Center.

Dade County Bar Association Young Lawyer Divisions 11th Annual Bids 4 Kids Thursday, November 21st
Join the DCBA YLS for the 11th Annual Bids 4 Kids event benefitting the YLS children's services programs. This years event will feature an open bar, gourmet bites, silent auction, live graffiti artist, food trucks and a performance by Suenalo. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Canes Carnival Friday, November 22nd


Join the Society of Bar & Gavel this Friday from 3:30-5:30pm for this very special event! B&G has invited 4th graders from Edison Park K-8 Center, a high needs school in an Miami, to join us on the bricks for a carnival filled with games, music, giveaways, UM Cheerleaders, and much more. If your organization would like to reserve a booth for a creative and fun activity for the kids or if you would like to be assigned an activity, please email barandgavel@gmail.com.

Volunteer with the Miami Book Fair International Now - November 24th
Calling all book lovers! The Miami Book Fair International needs volunteers in the weeks leading up to the Fair; as well as each day of actual Fair which is in mid-November. The shifts are in 3 hour incrementsyou can sign up for as many or as few as you want. You can pick the area you want to volunteer in. Volunteers assist transporting the authors, working in the childrens alley, ushering, autographing and generally working with the authors. All volunteers will get a free t-shirts. Harvard Legal Aid Bureau Summer 2014 Fellowships


During the summer, HLAB selects approximately 15-20 law students to serve as Summer Fellows, who will interact directly with clients, opposing parties, witnesses, and government agencies; engage in extensive factual and legal investigation; hone their research and writing abilities; and develop their litigation skills. Fellows work in HLABs Family Law, Housing Law, Government Benefits, and Wage and Hour practices. For more information, click here.

LOG YOUR HOURS for pro bono advocacy and community service! Congratulations to the hundreds of students who made the choice to begin the year with service through HOPE DAY. Over 800 hours of community service were logged by participants for their work across Miami-Dade County on August 16th. Take the HOPE pledge of performing 75 hours or more of pro bono advocacy and community service in law school. Like the UM HOPE Facebook Page!
