X SWEEPER
Spectrum Sweeper
The X Sweeper is a nearfield receiver with a graphical display that displays the nearfield RF (analog only) in a spectrum format, allowing the user to rapidly observe all signals that are present, not just one single frequency at a time. Once a signal is received, the X Sweeper demodulates the FM audio through its built in speaker. With a frequency range of 30MHz - 3GHz, the X Sweeper can sweep and lock onto a broad range of frequencies in a matter of seconds. The 25 button keypad allows easy access to all functions, provides a direct numerical entry for the center frequency of the sweep range to be easily selected, and easily tunes to a specific frequency in VFO mode.
The Optoelectronics X Sweeper is covered under US Patent No. 5,471,402. Antenna shown sold separately
SWEEP MODE: The center frequency and sweep span may be changed by direct entry from the keypad. The 10 sweep spans are, 3GHz, 1GHz, 300MHz, 100MHz, 30MHz, 10MHz, 3MHz, 1MHz, 300kHz and 100kHz.
MEMORY MODE: The X Sweeper has 10 different memory banks with the ability to hold up to 100 different frequencies in each bank. This gives the X Sweeper 1000 unique memories and the ability to store up to 65,000 hits per frequency. Each time a signal is received it is automatically stored with a time and date stamp as well as a relative signal strength reading.
SCAN MODE: The X Sweeper will scan all frequencies in a specific bank that were previously saved while in
SWEEP or VFO mode. This is a convenient way to determine if frequencies captured from an earlier session are still active.
VFO MODE: The X Sweeper may be tuned to specific frequency in VFO mode. Frequencies may be programmed and saved to a specific memory bank for inclusion in SCAN mode. Frequencies may also be saved to MEMORY mode and locked out. LOG MEMORY MODE: Log Memory Mode is a separate bank holding over 1900 frequencies with a unique time/date, signal strength, and latitude/longitude (with GPS option) for each frequency. This mode runs in parallel with SWEEP, SCAN and VFO modes and differs from the regular MEMORY in that it logs every frequency, even repeat occurences, to a separate memory allowing you to keep the first 1919 frequencies or keep the last 1919 frequencies captured. The X Sweeper has a built-in RS232 port for downloading data from memory. The OptoSuite X software is required. A CI5 port is also available and can be used for performing the Optoelectronics patented Reaction Tune function.
GPS OPTION
The X Sweeper has an optional GPS receiver and antenna. The GPS receiver module is factory installed inside the X Sweeper and the antenna (shown above) mounts on top of the unit. The GPS option displays the Latitude and Longitude coordinates of the X Sweeper location at the time it detected a signal .
SWEEP SPAN
In SWEEP mode the center frequency may be changed by direct entry from the keypad. The sweep span may also be changed. There are 10 different sweep spans (3GHz, 1GHz, 300MHz, 100MHz, 30MHz, 10MHz, 3MHz, 1MHz, 300kHz and 100kHz).If the center frequency was entered as 400MHz and the sweep span was selected as 100MHz, the X Sweeper would essentially sweep from 350MHz to 450MHz and display any signals present in that range. Any signals outside this range would not be displayed and effectively filtered out from detection or interference.
SWEEP VFO
The X Sweeper can be tuned to a specific frequency by entering that frequencydirectly into the keypad while in VFO mode. A frequency may be stored in memory from the VFO mode for inclusion in SCAN mode. A frequency may also be stored and then manually locked out in MEMORY mode. Up to 1000 lockouts are available.
The X Sweeper sweeps 30MHz-3GHz in one second and displays the nearfield RF present (analog only) . Once a signal is detected, the FM audio is demodulated through the speaker. There are 10 different span widths from 3GHz to 100kHz. A unique feature in SWEEP mode is Auto Skip. Auto Skip allows the X Sweeper to display, but not stop on any signals. This is ideal for quick sweeps and unattended sweeps where signal identification is more important than stopping and demodulating audio.
MEMORY SCAN
The X Sweeper has the ability to scan frequencies already saved to memory. Switching from SWEEP to SCAN mode allows frequencies in a chosen bank to be scanned, determining if frequencies captured previously are still active. Programming frequencies from VFO mode and then saving them to a specific bank is also possible, providing a customized scanning bank.
There are 10 unique memory banks which can hold up to 100 different frequencies in each bank, for a total of 1000 unique memories. Frequency, Hits (up to 65,000), Relative Signal Strength, Time, Date, Lockout status and Latitude/Longitude (GPS option required) are all stored in each memory. TILT STAND REMOVABLE AA BATTERIES
The X Sweeper comes supplied with eight AA alkaline batteries. These batteries are easily replaced in the field by removing the battery cover (outlined in white). The X Sweeper accepts alkaline, NiCad, NiMH and other rechargeable batteries.
Battery charger not included.
The X Sweeper comes with a built-in tilt stand. The stand allows the unit to be tilted vertically or horizonataly for just about any type of viewing angle. X Sweeper Size: 8"H x 4.25"Wx 2.25"D

TECH FACTS
The N100 FM Notch Filter is designed to provide 30dB of attenuation for signals in the FM broadcast band of 88-108MHz. All of our Optoelectronics nearfield devices look for a signal that is 15dB above the background RF floor. Once it detects that dominant signal it stops and locks on that signal and displays the frequency. FM stations are very strong signals that can raise the background RF floor significantly. If you have the possibility to lower your background RF by 30dB then the signal(s) of interest have less RF to climb through in order to be detected by the frequency counter or nearfield receiver. This allows signals to be captured from a greater distance than without the N100, or lower power transmitters to be detected that once could not because the background RF levels were too high. If you live in or near a metropolitan area chances are very good that the RF from FM transmitters is present. The N100 goes a long way towards helping the frequency counter or nearfield receiver do its job.

DIGITAL SCOUT
Frequency Recorder
The Digital Scout RF frequency recorder / field strength meter is the only instrument capable of counting pulsed RF (digital signals), as well as conventional CW (analog signals) from 10MHz - 2.6GHz. Until now, the only signals that a frequency counter could lock onto were analog signals. In addition to locking onto digital and analog signals, the Digital Scout has a calibrated signal strength measurement from -45dBm to 5dBm.The Digital Scout also incorporates the Optoelectronics patented, Reaction Tune. The built-in RS232 port allows for the direct connection to a PC for real time datalogging and download of frequencies in memory.
Antenna sold separately
Features 10MHz - 2.6GHz frequency range 4 hour battery operation 2x16 alphanumeric LCD with EL backlight Signal Strength reading displayed in dBm and bargraph -45dBm to -5dBm +/- 5dBm signal strength accuracy Memory download and real time datalogging using built-in RS232 interface (CBDS interface cable and OptoSuite Pro software sold separately) Reaction Tune analog signals with ICOM IC PCR1000, R10, R20, R7000, R7100, R8500 and R9000. AOR AR8000 and AR8200. Optoelectronics Optocom, OS456/Lite, OS535 and R11. 1000 memories with 65,000 hits per memory Captures both Digital (Minimum 300uS RF pulse required) and Analog signals Beeper and Vibrator alert Super Sensitive, down to 700uV in some bands
Digital Modulations
The Digital Scout has both conventional CW as well as pulsed RF frequency measurement capability. RF pulses or bursts as short as 300uS in duration can be measured using a new pulse slicing technique which accumulates data from successive pulses. RF pulses can be either uniform and repetitive or may vary widely in duty cycle and duration. Different types of modulation can be accommodated as long as zero crossings are produced by the RF carrier. Signals such as TDMA, GSM, Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS), APCO 25, ON/OFF Keying, TETRA, RF remotes, RC controllers and other pulsed RF are capable of being detected by the Digital Scout.
The Digital Scout is not capable of counting Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS), CDMA and PCS.
Reaction Tune
When connected to a receiver for Reaction Tune, the Digital Scout can capture a frequency and then tune the receiver to that frequency simultaneously. No more manual tuning of a receiver, no more wondering what you missed, let the Digital Scout do it for you. The Digital Scout can Reaction Tune the ICOM PCR100, R7000, R7100, R8500, R9000, R10, R20, AOR AR8000, AR8200 Optoelectronics R11, Optoelectronics OptoCom, Radio Shack Pro 2005/6 with the OptoScan456Lite installed, and the Radio Shack Pro 2035/42 with the OptoScan535 installed. The Digital Scout is shown to the left with the IC PCR1000, AR8200 and ICR10 respectively. When Reaction Tuning the PCR1000, the Digital Scout will also control the volume and the squelch of the receiver.
Signal Strength
Another breakthrough feature of the Digital Scout is the calibrated field strength measurement provided on the two line LCD display. The Digital Scout displays field strength in dBm with a signal strength bargraph serving as a reference. The Digital Scout reads and displays signal levels from -45dBm to -5dBm with an accuracy of +/- 5dBm. This feature is great for checking nearfield RF levels at remote sites, locating hidden transmitters, determining power levels from two-way radios and more. Technical Specifications
PC Download
The Digital Scout has a built-in RS232 port that allows the unit to be directly interfaced to a PC. Using the new OptoSuite Pro software you may download all frequencies in memory as well as perform real time datalogging with a time and date stamp. The optional CBDS cable is required to interface the Digital Scout to the PC with the OptoSuite Pro software. The serial interface specification is available for those who would like to write their own software. Email us for the specification.
