MECHANICAL ENGINEERING ME2306: Thermal Engineering Lab - I Duration: 3 Hrs Maximum Marks: 100

1. Conduct the performance test on a CI engine at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% & 100% of full load. Determine Mechanical efficiency, Brake thermal efficiency, Indicated thermal efficiency & Specific fuel consumption. Determine friction power using Willans line method. Draw the graph for SFC, BT, IT vs. BP. Tabulate the results. (100)

7. Determine the Mechanical efficiency of Single Cylinder Slow Speed diesel engine by conducting Retardation test. Apply 25% of maximum load. Tabulate your results. (100)

9. (a) Draw the Port timing diagram of two stroke engine observing opening and closing of various ports. Also draw the theoretical Valve timing diagram of four stroke engine. 10 (a) Determine the viscosity of given oil using Redwood viscometer at 40oC, 50oC, 60oC, 70oC and 80oC. Draw the graph between viscosity and temperature. (b) Determine the Flash and Fire point of given oil using Open cup apparatus. (60) (40)

13 Conduct the performance test on Steam boiler. Determine Evaporative capacity, Equivalent evaporation, Factor of evaporation and Boiler efficiency. Tabulate the results. (100)

14 Conduct the heat balance test on Steam boiler and steam turbine @ a particular pressure. (100)

15 Conduct the performance test on Steam turbine. Determine Mechanical efficiency, Brake thermal efficiency, Rankine efficiency & Specific steam consumption. (100)

16. Determine dryness fraction of steam using combined separating and throttling calorimeter. (100)

17. Conduct the Morse test on multi-cylinder petrol engine and determine Friction power and Mechanical efficiency in the each cylinder of the engine and tabulate your results. (100)

18. (a) Draw the Port timing diagram of two stroke engine observing opening and closing of various ports. Also draw the theoretical Valve timing diagram of four stroke engine. (70) (b) Explain the importance of Port timing diagram in the analysis of engine performance. (30)
