Introductory Remarks.
In this series of messages we are looking at how we can personally break free from the bondages of the past. In the first message I basically opened up the wounds we have all picked up along life s !ourney, so that you can begin to effectively deal with them. "e all have areas in our lives that we need to break free from so that we can be more successful as individuals in the present and the future. The primary emphasis of the first message was on the fact that there is hope for you no matter who you are or what has happened to you in the past. #esus came to heal and bind up your wounds. Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed... <nfortunately, the person we have become has been shaped by these wounds and their results. The wounds have produced ma!or strongholds in our lives that render us ineffective and unproductive. This is why many people are unhappy with the way their lives are turning out. They have failed to deal with these important issues and as a result they are impaired from having a life filled with .od s riches and abundance.

's we begin to deal with the wounds in our lives it is very important to deal with the root of the problem and not !ust the symptom. The list showing the results of most wounds is simply a list of symptoms. In order to change the symptom or result we must discern the root or cause. The following illustration shows us how we can do that. %ee Transparency ?+iscerning The 7oot of the "ound?. The healing for disobedience comes through repentance and accepting .od s forgiveness through #esus :hrist. 7epentance and forgiveness will clear the clutter of sin. /cts 4:17 "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins $ay be blotted out, so that ti$es of refreshing $ay co$e fro$ the presence of the Lord.. % !orinthians 7: !"
For godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, #hat clearing of yoursel$es, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
In order to maintain our healing in this area and get rid of the stronghold we must continue to walk in obedience to .od s word, reali=ing that it is the obedient who eat of the good of the land and receive from /is blessings C *saiah 4546 and 4 "ohn

This is one of the harder areas to receive healing, because it is very difficult to do the very thing that brings the healing. 'nd that is to totally forgive and love the person who did it to you. Matthew ):13 !ut if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father "forgive#
your trespasses.
Matthew 18:%1 Then +eter ca$e to Hi$ and said, "Lord, ho often shall $y brother sin against $e, and * forgive hi$0 <p to seven ti$es0" !olossians 4:1%&14 Therefore, as the elect of 'od, holy and beloved, put on tender $ercies, !indness, hu$bleness of $ind, $ee!ness, longsuffering/ bearing ith one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a co$plaint

against another/ even as (hrist forgave you, so you also $ust do. 3ut above all these things put on love, hich is the bond of perfection. Matthew 3:44 "3ut * say to you, love your ene$ies, bless those ho curse you, do good to those ho hate you, and pray for those ho spitefully use you and persecute you. It s important to keep in mind that with some wounds these root areas overlap. eg., a wound caused from a divorce would probably reDuire repentance for your part in it and then being able to forgive the partner who sinned against you. C. Receiving Healing For ounds !one By "vil #pirits.
It s important for us to acknowledge that we do have an enemy who seeks to devour and destroy the lives of people everywhere. 1 2eter 3:8 3e sober, be vigilant/ because your adversary the devil al!s about li!e a roaring lion, see!ing ho$ he $ay devour. #esus healed many people who were in this condition and has given us as saints of .od the same authority and power to pray for one another to receive this kind of deliverance through prayer. "e must put on the whole armor of .od to destroy this stronghold completely. 8phesians ):1(&14 %inally, $y brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the po er of His $ight. +ut on the hole ar$or of 'od, that you $ay be able to stand against the iles of the devil. %or e do not restle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against po ers, against the rulers of the dar!ness of this age, against spiritual hosts of ic!edness in the heavenly places. They are designed so that we can all learn to be honest with one another sharing our needs and wounds that we may receive healing from one another as the ;ord touches us all through /is body.
