. Electrical and Electronics Engineering EE 2304 Power Electronics Laboratory Time: 3 Hours Maximum Marks: 100

1. A renewable energy source delivers its output at 48V. This output has to drive a motor load at 24V. Design a circuit and implement it to suit the above requirement. Choose switching frequency of 10 kHz.

2. Design a power modulator whose input is 12V at a frequency of 50Hz. The ripple frequency at the output is 100 Hz. The circuit has to drive a reactive load. The circuit will provide bipolar output if the conduction is continuous.

3. Design a converter with half the number of switches as uncontrolled unidirectional switches. Measure the ripple frequency and state the applications of the converter.

4. Derive the static characteristics of unidirectional switch by conducting suitable experiment. Also list the applications of the switch

5. Derive the static characteristics of a bidirectional current controlled device used in fan regulators.

6. Derive the characteristics of unipolar switches that finds its application in DC to AC converters

7. Derive the characteristics of bipolar switch with isolated control terminal by conducting suitable experiment.

8. Derive the switching behavior of the switch used in cycloconverter applications.

9. Derive the transient behavior of unipolar high frequency switch used in dc dc converters.

10. Design and implement a converter to drive a load that operates on alternating current. The source available for the converter is from a solar cell. Study the harmonic behavior of the load voltage and propose a solution for the same.

11. Design and implement a converter to drive a star connected load that operates on alternating current.

12. Design a two stage DC DC converter implementing switching operation when the switch current is zero. Compare the performance when the switch is switched with nonzero current.

13. Design a converter with a fixed DC input of 24V. Calculate the output voltage of the converter for the duty ratio of 0.45 and 0.65 when the switching frequency is set to 5kHz and verify the same.

14. Calculate the firing angle to produce a DC voltage of 12V from a source of 24V, 50Hz. Implement the same using four unidirectional controlled switches.

15. Show with suitable experiment set-up that with resistive triggering the firing instant is limited till supply peak voltage.

16. With a suitable experimental set-up, derive the static characteristics of bipolar unidirectional switch.

17. Implement the concept of zero current switching in a two stage DC DC converter and verify the working with a neat setup.

18. Derive the static characteristics of a voltage controlled device.

19. Derive the transient behavior of voltage controlled device.

20. Design a converter with a fixed DC input of 22V. Calculate the output voltage of the converter for the duty ratio of 0.25 and 0.45 when the switching frequency is set to 5kHz and verify the same.
