Astro Meteorology
India was and still mainly an agrarian economy. More that 60% of its population earn its livelihoods by the means of agriculturally. Nature has gifted our country with six seasons; spring (Sanskrit vasanta), summer (grisma), monsoon (varsha), early autumn (sarada), late autumn (hemanta), and winter (sisira). And add to that we have a rich and varied heritage of biodiversity. Our agricultural is still mainly depends upon the timely rain to produce good harvest. Because of the importance of rain and weather conditions for agriculture our great sagas have given so much importance to Astrometeorology in the Puranas and Samhitas. The great Varahamihira in his Brihat Samhita has also given very valuable techniques for giving both long range and short-range predictions for rains. The long range prediction for rain is mainly depends upon the horoscope cast at the time of entry of Sun in Ardra Nakshatra which is around 22nd June every year. Around this day when Sun crosses the 6degree 40 minutes in Gemini sign the south- west monsoon begin to come in Northern India. The horoscope cast at that moment gives a fair bit of indication of monsoon rain for the whole country. For short range prediction of weather in Astromundaneastro.org/Astro_Meteorology.h

Monsoon 2010 and, a self learning exercise in Astrometeorology- I Sachin Malhotra(07-August-2010)

Astrology is a divine science and such a vast subject that even a life could prove short for understanding it thoroughly. Its a continuous learning process which required dedication in sharing the information with fellow researches. If astrology has to make substantial progress and establish it self as a widely respected field of science, which it is not till now, than honest astrologers must have to admit their failed predictions and try to explain them technically for others to learn. In my write-up of Ardra Parvesh chart and Monsoon forecast for 2010, I had given some predictions regarding the monsoon rain and its possible scale (access, normal, deficient and scanty) in different regions of the country. Though I had explain the out come of these predictions with technical points under the follow up section of that write-up but here, I will try to present them in a self learning exercise. See this Ardra Parvesh chart given below which is cast at the time when Sun enter the Ardra asterism. The striking feature of this chart is that lagan has dry rashi (with 0% water content) and a dry planet Mars in it and lord of lagan Sun is also placed in a dry rashi Gemini (a rashi with nil water content).Moon was in the Libra rashi, with 25% water content, and Aquarius Navamsha, having 50% water content rashi. Now notice this that Mars is ahead of Sun at the time of Ardra Parvesh and considering the fact that it will remain ahead of the Sun during the whole Monsoon season ,I thought there will be delay in Monsoon this time.

The transiting Jupiter in Pisces was making a classical combination of much rain on earth was adding to the confusion. Venus in Cancer also gives good rains though Sun in between Mercury and Venus is a combination of stopping the rain for some time. So keeping these entire astrological principal, which were so many apart from these, in mind I predicted that there will be delay in Monsoon and rain fall will be less than average. I also predicted that there will be less rain in north India (Punjab, Harayana, Delhi, Himachal etc.) as Scorpio rashi with 25% water contend is in the fourth house representing north direction. The eastern states like (Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Eastern U.P) will receive less rain fall was my forecast as Mars a dry planet was in that direction with 0% water content rashi. I gave Southern states like Andhra Pardesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu etc average rain fall as there was Taurus with 50% of water content and a watery planet Mercury placed there. I also predicted that Monsoon will pick up speed after 23rd July when Mercury will moves into Leo to join another watery planet Venus there. Now see the outcome of my forecast, which proved poor indeed, in the following points. 1. Monsoon express missed its deadline in most of the states, except Rajasthan and J&K where it came flying before 15 days of its scheduled time, and at one time IMD even released a statement in the newspapers around 2nd July that there will be deficient rain of 16% contrary to there earlier prediction of normal monsoon rain.

2. . Than comes 4th July (Sunday) when Moon was in Pisces (Uttrabhadrapada asterism) with Jupiter and in trine from them there was Venus in Cancer. Saturn was also in the seventh house from Moon. All these were making some good classical combinations for rain. The monsoon clouds traveled from Bihar to Delhi in just one day. The rain poured over the whole north India for next three days. 3. It was enough to sink my prediction, though monsoon was 6 days delay, but gods wanted some thing more so on 6th July when Venus entered into Leo and on 7th July Mercury also moves from Gemini to Cancer there was lots of rain over Punjab and Harayana and resulted in floods in most of the districts. Some senior citizens of my colony told me that it was since 1985 Punjab has first time experience such flood. Well two planets (watery ones) were changing rashis at those days has to bring some rain but I wasnt expecting that it will be going to be that much. 1. On the 13th of July the minimum temperature in Delhi dropped to 23.2 degree and this was the situation in almost whole of North India due to rain and heavy cloud cover. Moon was in Cancer together with Mercury at that time. 2. On the 20th July Mars moves into Virgo and there was heavy down- pour all over north India particularly Delhi, with its poor sewerage system, was struggling with problem of water logging all over. 3. . On 23rd July when Mercury entered the Leo rashi to join Venus and Jupiter got retrograded the South west Monsoon picked up its speed in whole of north India as predicted by me earlier. There was good rain in Delhi and whole of north India. 4. On the 31st August and 1st July the Moon was in Pisces conjoined with Jupiter and in the seventh from Saturn and Mars. Venus also moved into the Virgo on 2nd July bringing in some rain in north India. 5. Than came this sad news of the huge loss of lives (death of 175 people & more than 400 injured) in Leh due to Cloud burst and Flash Flood on 6th August (01:30 to 02:00 IST). Moon was in Taurus rashi and Cancer Navamsha; which was in trine from Venus in Virgo. 6. Now see this table which, was published in a news paper on 10th of August with the reference from IMD, will show you a very strange picture of the Monsoon pattern. Regions Actual Rain Long range (in Average rain (in Millimeters) Millimeters) 323 416 291.6 617 585.2 492 Deficiency in Rain (in %) 48 29 41

Source- Hindustan See Delhi in north India had received 15% less rain fall till date, though Delhiwalas are struggling with the problem of water logging and traffic jams due to this amount of rain fall!!! The most of the eastern part of India, with Bihar, Jharkhand and U.P, are in the grip of drought like situation which is confirming my prediction based on the Ardra Parvesh chart. Though I applied all the principal of Astrometeorology to the best of my knowledge but I couldnt understand the following things that happen in the first part of this monsoon season. .. 1. The Hindi poet Ghagh has said Mangal Rath Age Chale- Peeche Chale Jo Sur- Mand Varishti tab janiye padsi sagle shoor (When Mars is ahead of Sun there is no rain or deficiency of rain). But this classic principal didnt work this time though!!! 2. In the Ardra Parvesh chart for the year there were clear indications of scanty rain but these observations based on this chart were also drowned in the flood of Punjab & Harayana!!! 3. Jupiter in Pisces is said to give very much rain on the earth, I also pointed out this principal in my write-up of Ardra Parvesh and Monsoon 2010 forecast, which is true and it did happen this time as well. Pakistan (with 1600 deaths with floods), China (with 800 deaths with floods), Bangladesh, and northern (Punjab and Harayana) and western (Gujarat and Nagpur) part of India were the example of this.. 4. But I couldnt understand that in Ardra Parvesh chart when north has 25% water content rashi Scorpio with its lord Mars in a nil water content rashi than why there was flood in Punjab & Harayana??? 5. I know some of you might be thinking that Jupiter and Mercury, the two benefic and watery planets, are aspecting the Scorpio rashi which represent the north direction is the reason for this flood there. But let me tell you that Mars and Saturn are also aspecting Scorpio in the lagna chart and influencing the Navamsha of Ardra Parvesh chart. So things are not as easy as I though them to be.
