Manonmaniam Sundaranar University

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was established in 1990, as per Act 31, 1990 by the Government of Tamil Nadu, as a Teachingcum-Affiliated University. The University has been named after Prof. P. Sundaram Pillai (1855-1897), the Tamil poet literate and renowned late 19th century writer who authored the famous verses of the drama MANONMANIAM. The University caters to the needs of three southern districts in Tamil Nadu viz. Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari. Dr. M. Karunanidhi, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, formally inaugurated the University on 7th September, 1990. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). About eighty thousand students study in the various university departments and its eighty affiliated colleges, which include one constituent and government college. Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is among the pioneering institutions that offer the ChoiceBased Credit System (CBCS). Instructions to fill up the ERC (Eligibility and Recognition) and Application Form
Candidates should go through the prospectus carefully before filling in the application form. Application should be filled in by the candidates own hand writing in English only. ERC form has to be filled in complete details. Passport size photo should be affixed in the application form and in the identify card duty attested by a Gazetted officer. Two additional passport size photograph to be stapled with the application form. Name of the candidate and the address to which communication to be sent should be stated in capital letters. Residential address should be given for communication. No column of the application should be left blank. The MSU course fee, supplementary fee and exam fee must be paid through demand draft drawn in favour of The Registrar Manonmaniam Sundaranar University payable at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The MSU Exam fee must be paid along with applicable service tax to Aptech Limited payable at Mumbai. Admission will be given subject to the eligibility of the candidate.

Eligibility and Recognition Certificate

Eligibility and recognition certificates should be obtained before admission. Students who passed in 10+2 or equivalent from any other board / college / university. Other than Tamil Nadu State Board will have to pay an amount of `. 500/- by means of DD payable to Registrar, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University payable at Tirunelveli. Students who passed in 10+2 or equivalent from Tamil Nadu State Board will have to pay an amount of `. 300/by means of DD payable to Registrar, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University payable at Tirunelveli. Personal Contact Program (PCP)

Personal Contact Program for students will be conducted by experienced teachers and experts in the respective fields for all courses offered through DD & CE as would be notified by the study centre. Any change in the program will be intimated to the students at the venue of the PCP classes. The syllabus prescribed cannot be fully covered in PCP classes as in the case of regular colleges. Students are requested to attend the PCP classes regularly without fail. Students are advised to make their own arrangement for boarding and lodging. The PCP classes are organised to supplement the course material already provided. To make the sessions interactive, we recommend students to read the study material prior to attending the classes. Students are expected to attend practical classes compulsorily to enable them to complete all the practicals within the stipulated period. Practical classes for relevant courses will be conducted on the specified dates at the fixed study centres only.

General Instructions
The fees once paid will not be refunded or adjusted under any circumstances. The University has the right to revise the fee without prior notice. Change of course and subject will not permitted. Any change in address should be intimated with a covering letter, 12 address slips and a Demand Draft of `. 100/-. Students are instructed to furnish necessary particulars such as Name, Address, Enrolment No. / Register No., Course, Year of study, Name of the study centre etc. in all correspondence. Letters with incomplete particulars will not be considered for action at our end. No transfer Certificate will be issued on completion of course as original TC is returned after verification at the time of admission. Course Completion certificate will be issued in lieu of Transfer Certificate. The students who wish to obtain the course completion certificate are directed to send their application with a demand draft for `. 100/-. Whenever the students enclose demand draft for various purpose, they should write their name, enrolment number and the course details at the back of D.D. overwriting or correction in the demand draft will not be accepted. All payments such as tuition fee for duplicate Identify cards etc. should be paid through a demand draft drawn in favour of the Registrar Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, payable at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. No cash payment should be made either at Directorate or in Study Centre. Examination fee for arrear papers should be paid separately along with Service Tax in a single Demand draft drawn in favour of Aptech Limited payable at Mumbai. The place of jurisdiction for filing of suit in case of any dispute will be only at Tirunelveli.

Examination Information General

The University examinations for all courses are held twice in a year in May / December. Hall tickets will be issued with subject codes at the time of remittance of fees. Students who have failed in the first appearance should obtain the examination application form from the study centre or can be downloaded from the University website. The duly filled in examination application form should be submitted with the prescribed fee on or before the last date as given by the University.

University will fix the exam centres. Students will be informed about the exam centres 3 weeks before the examinations

Results and Certificates

The examination results will be made available in the information / Study centres. Final statement of marks and provisional Certificate will be sent to the study centres. If there is any arrear in payment of fee, the above certificates will not be sent.

Student Support services

GRIEVANCE CELL A Grievance Cell is functioning in the Director of Distance and Continuing Education, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University to redress the grievances of students of Distance Learning Program. Students and the public may register their grievances / suggestions either in person or by post with the Deputy Registrar (Grievance Cell). All the complaints / suggestions received will be recorded and steps will be taken to redress the grievance within a time frame. If reply is not received within a reasonable time, the fact may be brought to the notice of the Director, who will attend to it personally.

Convocation
Normally the annual Convocation is conducted during the month of August / September. For obtaining degree certificate, Students should apply to the controller of examinations in the prescribed format.

Special Convocation
Those who did not apply on account of various reasons and those who would wish to obtain convocation certificates without waiting for the next annual convocation, may apply to the Controller of Examinations for special Convocation with the required fee.

Corrections in Certificates
For any corrections in mark statement or in provisional Certificates or in Degree Certificates, candidates may contact Deputy Controller of Examinations, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli along with original mark statement and details of correction to be made with sufficient proof.

Admission

Types of Admission
Candidates can apply for either (I) Academic Year Admission or (ii) Calendar Year Admission. 1. Academic Year Admission Candidates are admitted during June to December for all Undergraduate courses. 2. Calendar Year Admission Candidates are admitted during January to May for all Undergraduate Courses.

A demand draft of `. 500/- must be drawn from any Nationalised bank in favour of the Registrar, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, payable at Tirunelveli for obtaining the prospectus from the study centre. 1. Two sets of Xerox copies attested by a Gazetted Officer should be sent along with filled in admission application form. 1. Transfer Certificate / Migration Certificate / evidence for Date of Birth. 2. Statement of marks of qualifying examination / Intermediate / Higher Secondary Education (10+2) / 10+3 Polytechnique Diploma / Degree certificates / DOEACC. 2. Attested (by a Gazetted Officer or a person holding an equivalent rank or the Principal / Head of an Institution) photocopies of the original mark-sheet of Intermediate / Higher Secondary Education (10+2) / 10+3 Diploma.

Distance Education System

Eligibility
Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from any recognised institution or University will be admitted in UG degree courses under DD & CE on verification of certificates in original.

Identification Card
Identification Card will be issued to the candidates after verification of the original certificates and original documents submitted along with ERC and Admission Application forms. The ID Card will be handed out on demand during the contact class programmes. For getting Hall Ticket during examinations and at the time of receiving Mark Statements and other Certificates the ID Card has to be shown. Hence students are advised to keep it with them till the completion of the course.

Candidates must carry relevant Original Certificates and prescribed fees with them. The application forms will then undergo a final verification after which they will be forwarded to the University for
confirmation of admission.

Duplicate Identity Card

If the original Identity Card is lost, duplicate Identity Card will be issued on production of a demand draft `. 350/accompanied by a requisition letter, a recent passport size photograph.

Enrolment numbers will be allotted to all the candidates admitted in DD & CE. Enrolment number will be used for examination also.

ID cards are issued by MSU after all the above processes have been completed successfully.

Enrolment number will not be changed during the course of study. Students are advised to write the enrolment number in all correspondence and in Demand Draft (at backside) any Enquiry without mentioning the Enrolment number can not be entertained.

Study Material
Admission Application
Study Material should be collected from the admission centres. No study material will be given for languages like English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Kannadam, Telugu and optional subjects under Part I.

Verification

Study Centres
All students will be attached to any one of the study centre for the purpose of admission issue of course material, conduct of PCP classes and for getting other relevant information.

Issuance of ID card

Change of Study Centres

Change of study centre, if required, can be availed only after the yearly examinations. The students who want to change their study centre should submit their requisition leter enclosing a DD for `. 600/- drawn in favour of The Registrar Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. Payable at Tirunelveli along with No objection Certificate (NOC) obtain from the study centre in which they are studying.
