Registration Information
REGISTER EARLY! Many of our camps and programs ll up fast and registration is on a rst come, rst served basis. Participants must be the advertised age of the camp by September 1, 2014 to register. Most of our camps and programs run in two-week sessions, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Registration instructions are on page 72. If you need additional help, call 240-777-6840. RecAssist is available beginning January 1, 2014 to County Residents who are receiving assistance from other Montgomery County agencies. Visit montgomerycountymd.gov/rec for more information. You will receive a REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION by email after your registration is processed. Please make sure you email is current in our system. If you register online, you will need to print out your receipt/ conrmation.
Program info
Camp information will be emailed. If no email address is on le, info will be mailed. If registering after June 8, go online and print participant information. Campers will not be able to attend without required paperwork. On the rst day of camp your child will be assigned to a group counselor and they will receive a Newsletter of the planned camp and program activities. MCR staff have gone through background checks and receive specic program training prior to camp/ program beginning. Air conditioning may not be available at all locations. Sports camps, outdoor camps, park sites, and school gyms are usually NOT air conditioned. Extreme Heat and Code Red Ozone Alerts, as well as other inclement weather conditions, force us to adapt our program schedules and activities for your childs safety. No AM or PM bus transportation will be provided.

ADA Accommodations
Montgomery County Government is committed to complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). As a result, children and teens with disabilities may register for the most appropriate programs for their age, needs, and skill level. There are two options: Therapeutic Recreation camps specically designed for individuals with disabilities or inclusion in general recreation programs. If your child needs auxiliary aids or services in order to participate (such as a companion, ASL or cued speech interpreter, or large print), please call a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to discuss your childs needs (240-777-6870) or email rec.mainstream@montgomerycountymd.gov. If your child has a Special Education placement at school, a volunteer companion to work one-on-one may enhance his or her experience at camp. Companion requests are made on a case by case basis. Please notify us as early as possible to arrange. Last minute requests will be accepted but accommodations may be difcult to fulll.
Ages 3-5: Ahoy all Pirate Island Buccaneers! Come aboard to create pirate ships, colorful parrots, treasure maps, sea monsters, ship ags, doubloon necklaces, treasure chests and more! Our buccaneers will explore cartooning, origami, sand painting, sculpture, cartography, and much more using their very own Abrakadoodle Pirate Kit. At the end of camp they take home the rest of their art materials for added fun at home. Materials fee includes all materials, props, games, stories and music used in class as well as the take home kit that extends the learning and fun at home. Arrrrgh! Act It Out!
Ages 3-5: Brought to you by the C.A.R.E. Actor (creative awareness responsive education) program, comes alive as we act out storybooks and make our own costumes and props using a variety of art materials! In this camp, students will experience how the theater arts and ne arts go hand in hand while discussing topics such as respect, kindness, and peace through storybooks. Turn on your childs creativity! Camps feature themed sessions of fun lled creative and energized activities that inspire the imagination and spark the enthusiasm of campers! Daily schedules mix games, crafts, drama, music, and special events that are made even more fun by linking play with playful themes. Programs will not meet on Friday, July 4.

Ages 12-15: Robot warriors clash! Students will build battle robots using everyday materials and make them ght against each other. First campers do a step-by-step lesson to build a basic motorized bot, then they have freedom to create their own custom design, armor, and weapons. Mechanical Engineering
Ages 7-12: Campers use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and rene a variety of machines and mechanical systems. Students learn basics of uid mechanics, simple machines, and other design and engineering concepts while constructing roller coasters, egg-drop vehicles, and an incredibly fast air powered dragster they keep at the end of the course. Mad Science-321 Blast-Off!
Ages 6-12: This action-packed week will focus solely on rockets and the physics of rocket ight. After learning the model rocket safety code, campers will build a number of different rockets and participate in the launching, mission control, propulsion and nally recovery of the rockets they build. Let's Cook Camp
Ages 5-12: Campers will spend the week making delicious desserts and mouth-watering main courses. Through daily hands-on cooking, campers will learn creative ways to cook some of their favorite dishes. Campers will learn how to make healthy cooking choices, read food labels, write recipes, measure cooking ingredients, determine proper portion sizes, and more! Round House Theatre's Summer Playmakers!
Ages 9-13: Summer Playmakers allows students to bring stories to life onstage! These weeklong sessions use a multi-arts approach including acting & character creation, movement, design & visual arts, and music to create an original play. Each week has a unique theme, so students can do one week or many! The morning includes drama and specialty classes leading to anafternoon full of creative experimentation and rehearsal. Ages 3-12: full day; Ages 3-5: half day option also available. Here's an exciting opportunity to enjoy age appropriate sports, games, arts & crafts and more in this supercharged environment. The Club will feature organized activities as well as time for participants to engage in activities based on their own interests. Sports include soccer, basketball, hockey and others. Ages 8-12: Join a different adventure every day in this fun, action packed camp. Daily activities in and around the Montgomery County area may include swimming, water parks, rollerskating, bowling and more! This camp has it all-swimming, diving, trampoline, soccer, kickball, crafts and games! Campers should be able to swim 25 yards and must be comfortable in water that exceeds their height. Campers must come equipped with shorts, T-shirt, and tennis or athletic-type shoes. Campers should bring a non-perishable lunch, extra pair of athletic socks, swim suit, towel, cap, goggles, and sunscreen. A $15 material fee is due at the beginning of each session, payable to Tober Aqua Sports, Inc. Extended Care is provided by the camp for morning and/or afternoon for participants only. Arts Camps
Artengage, educate, explore! Cultivate and enhance your dance and music skills! Participate in theatre production including: choreography, improvisation, and set construction. Develop the condence and poise that will last a lifetime. Learn new skills working in watercolor, acrylics or origami. Create with paper mache, design a maze or explore fun cartooning. Experience art in a variety of hands-on activities and fun creative forms. Transportation is not available for these programs. Campers attending full-day programs must bring their lunch. Programs will not meet on Friday, July 4.
Young Artist
Ages 6-8: Does your child love arts and crafts? Then this is the perfect camp for them! Each day we will create inspired artwork learning new skills and working with exciting media. We will balance out our day with fun games, stories and exploration. As a grand nale, campers will proudly display their creativity at an art show for friends and family. Campers swim at a MCR pool twice per week and have a eld trip during the rst three sessions. Each child must bring a bag lunch. Ages 9-13: Lights, camera, drama! Leap into an unforgettable theater experience as we plan and produce a real stage production. Valley Mill Girls Adventure Sports Horseback Riding
Ages 8-14: Campers participate in horseback riding or a horse activity once per day plus participate in other camp activities such as canoeing, kayaking, air rie, swimming, archery, gymnastics, and more throughout the rest of the day. Valley Mill Camp has two pools, a 2 acre lake, climbing walls, archery ranges, stables and more and is surrounded by nature. The horseback riding option is available for females only. Summer Fun Centers are for children between the ages of 5 and 12 years. Five-year-olds must be entering rst grade in the Fall, and school records may be required for age verication. Children must be no older than 12 throughout the six-week session.

To participate as a Junior Counselor you must also register for a Junior Counselor Orientation session (pick from one of six classes). Junior Counselors will not be able to participate over the summer unless they have attended the mandatory Junior Counselor Orientation. Ages 14+ Experience the satisfaction of helping a child with a disability gain the most from his/ her summer. Help one child in a general recreation setting to integrate into one of the summer programs. Please contact the TR volunteer coordinator (240) 777-6891.
Junior Counselors
The Junior Counselor Training is a great opportunity for returning volunteers to build on their experiences from the previous summer and get ready for a new summer of leadership and fun. To be eligible to participate in the Junior Counselor Program, you must have successfully completed the Summer Leadership Challange Program or have been a CIT, Mainstream Companion or TR Camp Assistant last year. The workshop will focus on leadership skills, conict resolution, communication skills and provide an overview of the summer experience and the expectations for Junior Counselors. This is a mandatory training. Student Service Learning hours may be earned upon successful completion of the program.

Extended Camps
Keep the fun going all day long! Campers may also be registered for morning or afternoon Extended Camp. Morning extended Camp provides campers with low key activities like puzzles, building toys and games to start the day off right. Afternoon Extended Camp will give campers time to relax and cool down after a busy day. Campers will participate in games, crafts and sports. Morning extended Camp truns form 7:00 am to 9:00 am and Afternoon Extended Camp runs form 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Pleae note there are additional fees for late pickup. Campers must bring a snack for Extended Camp. Camps will not meet on Friday, July 4.

Half day camps are designed for students that arent quite capable of playing a full round and carrying their bag or are brand new to golf. The half day camp gives juniors the opportunity to practice on putting, chipping, irons, and woods with a member of the MCG Academy. This class will be in a practice setting for MondayThursday with an on the course portion on Friday. The perfect class to develop the skills needed to start playing with family. Clubs are provided as needed at all locations. This class is a blast for juniors and will send them home wanting more and more golf. Be Careful!
Full day camp: $249-$349
Full Day Camps are designed for the young golfer in everyones family. Its the ideal summer camps for juniors that want to get out on the course. This program spends time playing golf every afternoon and working to improve their skills every morning. We provide lunch to each participant. Juniors need to be able to carry their bags for a minimum of 9 holes on their own. An awesome class that gets the kids outdoors, gets them some exercise, and gets them playing a whole lot of golf. Students are required to have their own equipment. Additionally, juniors must have experience carrying their own clubs for 9 holes for any of the full day camps. 49

Golf
Beginner/Intermediate Golf Camp
This half-day camp is just the ticket for kids 6-13 years old who have expressed interest in and/or shown a talent for golf, but arent quite ready to play a full round. With the help of a Montgomery County Golf Academy instructor, campers will practice putting, chipping, driving and using irons and woods Monday-Thursday at the Driving Range. On Friday, theyll compete in small tournament at a nearby golf course. Itll be a blast for juniors, and a great way to develop the skills needed to start playing golf with the family.

For kids who want to try golf but don't want to spend all day at it, this great combo camp will keep them happy and active all day! With the help of a Montgomery County Golf Academy instructor, all campers will practice putting, chipping, driving, and using irons and woods at the Driving Range (M-Th, 9am-Noon). Afternoons for full-day campers will be filled with "so much more": tennis, basketball, kick ball, mini-golf and water fun at South Germantown Splash Playground & Miniature Golf. On Friday, everyone will play 9 holes of golf together at a nearby course, then full-day campers will head back for a final fun group activity. Dont want the so much more? Sign up for the half-day camp and concentrate on golf!
Players will be assigned to groups according to their skill level. This advanced fishing camp will focus on building skills and techniques to effectively use a wider variety of artificial lures, and better understand fish behavior and fishing strategies.
