GLOSSARY
Mode of study The manner in which course materials are presented.
There are three modes: oc d ol (Web)
Refers to a study mode that requires students to attend regular classes within Australia at a USQ campus including:
oc on-campus study
oc T Toowoomba | oc S Springfield | oc FC Fraser Coast
Refers to any study undertaken by students externally outside of Australia or off-campus within Australia. The
d Distance Education
curriculum text book and methods of assessment are the same as for on-campus students. However, contact with
teaching staff is written or electronic rather than face-to-face.
Study materials usually include a mailed package containing an introductory book, study book, selected readings,
assignment labels and cover sheets. Students also have access to USQConnect, an email account, online library
resources, online learning circles and support services.
QUICK REFERENCE
Refers to study via the Internet. Courses in which the instruction, communication among academic staff and students,
ol Online study
submission of assignments and feedback is offered mainly through the Internet.
Program A combination of units, the successful completion of which, in accordance with the relevant requirements, will fulfil the
prescribed elements for a particular award.
For example, to complete the Master of Business Administration, there are 12 units that need to be completed. These
12 units make up the degree’s program of study.
Program load per semester
oc On-campus A normal full-time program load is 4 units per semester during Semesters 1 and 2.
d Distance Most distance students study 2 units per semester.
Program load per year
oc On-campus A normal on-campus study program load per year is equal to 8 units per year during
Semesters 1 and 2. Students wishing to study additional courses in Semester 3* may apply
to do so.
Note: * Not all programs offer courses in Semester 3. Students may wish to fast-track their program by studying
extra units during this semester.
Unit A measure of the workload for a student. Students must gain a set number of units to complete a program. Most
courses are equal to 1 unit.
Estimated fee per unit USQ’s fees for international students are reviewed and adjusted on an annual basis. The revised fees apply from
February of each year. The unit tuition fee for programs with a duration longer than one year may therefore be subject
to an increase dependent on the new revised annual fees following 2010.
The estimated fee per course may also vary, dependent on the student’s pattern of enrolment. For instance, a student
may choose to enrol in electives or core courses offered by a different faculty with a different unit price the courses
offered by their own faculty.
Estimated total program tuition fee To establish the approximate cost of an entire program, you can multiply the fees per course by the total number of
units required to complete the program. For details on unit fee per course, please refer to the following web address:
www.usq.edu.au/international/fees
oc On-campus For example: B
achelor of Business
= Unit cost per course [AUD 2050] x Number of units [24]
= Total program cost [AUD49200]
d Distance For example: B
achelor of Business
= Unit cost per course [AUD1700] x Number of units [24]
= Estimated total program tuition cost [AUD 40800]
Disclaimer All programs and fees listed were correct at time of printing. In the case of any discrepancy please refer to the
USQ website: www.usq.edu.au/international/fees which is to be considered the most current version.
