Welcome to Liverpool Knowledge Festival, the rst ever celebration of the citys world-beating knowledge across areas as diverse as the life sciences, particle physics, regeneration and literature. Created by Liverpool Vision, the citys three universities, Liverpool Science Park and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, the Festival has something for everyone so come and join in the celebration of Liverpool Knowledge.

Saturday 13th October, 9.30am to 3.30pm LIVERPOOL JOHN MOORES UNIVERSITY OPEN DAY Free Public Event Discover more about life as a student and nd out what LJMU offers, both academically and socially, at the University Open Day. Youll have the chance to speak to current staff and students, attend subject talks, tour the University campuses and take part in a range of practical demonstrations. Free Public Event Venue: International Slavery Museum This event will reconsider the case for aid and ask what alternatives may make a real difference. For further information and to book tickets: www.liv.ac.uk/events/policy-provocations/ Saturday 20th October, 12pm to 4pm LIVERPOOL JOHN MOORES UNIVERSITY AND MERSEYSIDE MARITIME MUSEUM DOCKWATCH Free Public Event Venue: The Colonnades DockWatch, organised by LJMU and Seized! gallery at the Merseyside Maritime Museum will give families the chance to watch fascinating underwater life at the Albert Dock and touch real sea life. Using an underwater camera, visitors will be able to see the articial reef along the dock walls and have a closer look at the creatures which inhabit the dock, giving an insight into its unique ecosystem. Among the sea life present are blue mussels, colourful seasquirts, algae, sticklebacks, shrimps and the famous conger eels. Adverse weather conditions could affect this event. The facilities are a new innovation in the Higher Education sector and are set to change scientic teaching provision across the UK by bringing together a variety of different science disciplines under the same roof to demonstrate to students the benets of learning from other related scientic subject areas. Wednesday 24th October, 5.30pm to 7pm UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL LUCREZIA ZAINA BEQUEST LECTURE 2012, WITH ANDREW GRAHAM-DIXON Free Public Event Venue: Sherrington Building, Ashton Street. Caravaggio - a Life Sacred and Profane. In this lecture, art critic, journalist, TV presenter, novelist, lecturer and educationalist, Andrew GrahamDixon, will reveal the identities of the ordinary people often prostitutes and the very poor that Italian artist, Caravaggio, used as models for his depictions of classic religious scenes. He will describe the drama, immediacy and humanity of Caravaggios paintings that completely departed from the conventions of his time and explore the extraordinary circumstances of Caravaggios death. At each event there will be four speakers who will present their research to a mixed audience from across the University. Topics discussed will include policing, the built environment and regeneration, life drawing and the biomechanics of posture and balance. Thursday 25th October, 12pm to 4pm LIVERPOOL JOHN MOORES UNIVERSITY LECTURE BY DIANE ABBOTT MP Free Public Event with limited tickets Venue: LJMU Art and Design Academy, off Brownlow Hill As part of this years Black History Month, LJMU hosts a free, public lecture presented by Diane Abbott, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington and Shadow Minister for Public Health. The talk is entitled: Using the past as a platform for the future: Do British universities cater for black and other minority communities?. Guests will have the chance to view an exhibition

of work and dance and drama performances from LJMU students. The event is free but places are limited and must be registered in advance.
