Chapter 2 Exercise 1
1. Open AutoCAD 2007 - either with a double-click on its start-up icon in the Windows desktop, or by using the method on the computer being used. 2. Make sure the coordinate numbers at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen are showing clearly. Right-click on the numbers, followed by a click on Absolute in the menu which appears. 3. Press the function key F9 or left-click the SNAP button in the status bar to ensure Snap is set on - the button appears depressed. 4. Press the function key F7 or left-click the GRID button in the status bar to ensure Grid dots are showing.

5. Call the Line tool with a left-click on its tool icon in the Draw toolbar. 6. Move the mouse until the coordinate numbers in the status bar read 40,250,0 and left-click. 7. Move the mouse to the right until the coordinate numbers show 270,250,0 and left-click. 8. Move the mouse downwards until the coordinate numbers show 270,100,0 and left-click. 9. Move the mouse to the left until the coordinate numbers show 40,100,0 and left-click. 10. Move the mouse upwards until the coordinate numbers show 40,250,0 and right-click - the rectangle Exercise 1 appears on screen. Note The last figure of the coordinate number (0) can be ignored for all 2D work. 11. Place a 31/2 inch floppy disk into the floppy disk slot of the computer. 12. Left-click on File in the menu bar, then again on Save As ... in the drop-down menu which appears. 13. In the Save Drawing As dialog which appears select 31/2 Floppy (A:) in the Save in field and enter 2_Exercise01 in the File name field, followed by a left-click on the Save button of the dialog. 14. The drawing will be saved as a file with the name 2_Exercise01.dwg on the floppy disk.

Chapter 2 Exercise 2 Note


If you have saved the acadiso.dwt drawing template as suggested in Chapter 1 of the book Introduction to AutoCAD 2006, when you open AutoCAD 2007, the acadiso.dwt template will load automatically. You must however close your drawing after saving it, followed by opening the acadiso.dwt template: 1. Close your drawing with a left-click on its Close button at the top right-hand corner of the AutoCAD window. Note it is the lower of the two Close buttons, the upper one will close AutoCAD 2007 if it is clicked.

2. Left-click File in the menu bar and left-click New ... in the File drop-down menu.

3. When the Select template dialog appears, double-click acadiso.dwt in the Name list.

To construct the drawing for Exercise 2


1. Call the Line tool with a left-click on its tool icon in the Draw toolbar. 2. At the command line in the command palette.

Note: The first entry 60,220 could have been any other suitable coordinate number. The other coordinates are found by addition or subtraction from that first number. 3. 1. Close the previous drawing and open the acadiso.dwt template. 2. Left-click the Line tool from the Draw toolbar. The command line shows:

2. The drawing shows a closed polyline of width 0.7. Construct the outline using the technique you believe to be best suited to producing the required drawing.

3. Construct four arcs to the details given in the drawing to the right. Add lines between the arcs. Then using Edit Polyline form a closed polyline of the outline to a width of 2.

4. Construct the four arcs to the details as given. Add lines to complete the outline. Then add the four circles tangential to the outline.
