the value we excel in. Located in the lush green flora amidst Powai and Vihar Lakes in Mumbai,
NITIE since its inception, has claimed a unique place in Industrial Engineering and Management

About NITIE
N
ational Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), an autonomous
body under the Ministry of HRD, was established in 1963 by the
Government of India with the assistance of United Nations
Development Program (UNDP) through the International Labor
Organization (ILO). NITIE is governed by a Board of Governors
comprising of eminent personalities from the industry, government, labor
and professional bodies.
Over the last four decades, NITIE has developed a symbiotic relationship with Industry that helps it serve
the Industry better, thereby upholding its motto of “Udyog Pragati”. NITIE has been consistently ranked
amongst the top notch Institutes imparting Management education.
It also offers Fellow programme at Doctoral level. Annually, NITIE trains over 2000 professionals through its
various week-long Management Development Programmes (MDPs) and Unit Based Programmes (UBPs)
in different areas of Industrial Engineering and Management.
NITIE is also engaged in applied research and offers professional consultancy services in various facets of
Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Information Systems, Marketing, Human Resources
and other management and productivity related fields.

Infrastructure
NITIE ENVIRONS
The cool canopy of the green surroundings at NITIE and the aura of two
serene lakes encircling the campus, effectively combine to shield it from
the mad rush that characterizes Mumbai. The tranquil environs at NITIE
ensure that from the intellectual to the athlete, from the spiritual to the
pragmatic, from the refined to the active, each is offered a cozy corner.
LIBRARY
NITIE houses one of the best libraries, with over 85,000 books, 8835
bound volumes and 267 current periodicals in the field of management sciences. Students have
access to various online databases like EIS, PROWESS, EBSCO, Elsevier's Science Direct and
Emerald. NITIE has entered into reciprocal understanding with libraries of major institutes like IIT
Mumbai, TIFR, TISS and the University of Bombay for symbiotic
acquisition of knowledge. Students also have access to the British
Council library for reference books.
COMPUTER CENTER
NITIE is equipped with state-of- the- art computer facilities. A fully
dedicated 2 Mbps leased line caters to the internet requirements of the
entire campus including classrooms, faculty offices and hostel rooms.
LABORATORIES AND RESEARCH FACILITIES
NITIE has a full fledged audio visual laboratory which is used in personality development
programmes involving recorded feedback sessions. It also boasts of stat- of-the-art laboratories in
various areas of Industrial Engineering & Management, IT, Human Factors, Environment and Safety.
INFRASTRUCTURAL SUPPORT
NITIE believes that its students are the cream of the community and hence they deserve the best.
The infrastructural support it provides is just an expression of this belief. The classrooms are
equipped with the necessary presentation facilities for participative learning.
HOSTELS
The hostels are well equipped and all rooms are well furnished with
single/double occupancy and internet connectivity. Each room is
furnished with beds, mattresses, study table, wardrobe and attached
bath. There are two mess halls, which provide good quality food at
subsidised rates. Staying in the hostel helps develop harmonious
group dynamics among students and it broadens their socio cultural
horizons.
AUDITORIUM
NITIE houses a fully air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 200. The auditorium is
acoustically designed and used for lectures and screening of audio visual films.
RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
The campus has floodlit facilities for basketball, lawn tennis and indoor badminton. It also houses a
scenic ground for cricket and football. The hostels are equipped with facilities for table tennis,
volleyball and carom etc. To help students unwind after day's work, the hostels have well stocked
reading rooms, TV rooms and a gym with basic equipment.

About PGDIE
N
ITIE recognizes the growing need for qualified and trained
Professionals to apply engineering and managerial techniques to
increase productivity and improve effectiveness of organization
systems in all sectors of the economy. PGDIE, the flagship programme of
NITIE, started in 1971, has been designed to systematically educate and
develop professionals to undertake responsibilities pertaining to industrial
and management systems. This course is recognized by Govt. of India,
Association of Indian Universities and AICTE.
PGDIE mainly focuses on problem solving in industry in a cross-functional setting. The role of a PGDIEan is
that of an organizational consultant in various functions of business. The course covers Supply Chain
Management, Logistics, Operations Planning and Control, Operations Research, System Engineering, e-
Commerce, ERP, MIS, Marketing management, Financial management and Human Resources
Management, to name a few.
PGDIE students were initially employed mainly in manufacturing sectors. In the past two decades,
however, PGDIEians have increasingly been employed by service sectors such as Consultancies,
Banking and Insurance sector, Telecom sector, Hotel Industry, Health Care Industry and Transportation
and Logistics. The tools and techniques used by Industrial Engineers in their work have developed
tremendously over the years.
Course Focus
In an effort to cope with enormous expansion, while continuing to maintain high academic standards, the
curriculum is structured into 30 compulsory courses and a wide ranging list of electives.
To put knowledge into practice and to leverage on academic inputs the students take up industry
internships in the form of:
Leveraging the opportunity of being in the country’s commercial capital, students undertake various week-
end assignments to widen their knowledge sphere.

Events
LAKSHYA
In this era of globalization where competition is the order
of the day, industries needed a platform to showcase
their excellence their excellence and share their rich
experience with other industries and to serve the cause
of continuous learning managers needed a networking
arena and a domain for knowledge sharing. The PGDIE
students, always having served the industry as pillar
stones, took this challenge as a responsibility and
LAKSHYA was born in the year 2000.
LAKSHYA is a unique endeavor by PGDIE students of
NITIE to improve not only Industry-Industry interaction but also Institute-Industry interaction to keep
students updated with current requirements of industry and preparing them to handle their respective
portfolios more effectively. This is amply reflected by its growing popularity across all the sections of
business in India. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) supports LAKSHYA and recognizes it as one
of its kind in the country.
The winners of the LAKSHYA contests receive certificates of excellence from CII.
LAKSHYA honors top honchos of the industry as a memorabilia for their achievements in the form of
LAKSHYA Business Visionary Awards. The awardees over the years have been:
SPICMACAY
SPICMACAY, the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical
Music and Culture among Youth is a non-profit, voluntary and
participatory movement of young people. NITIE is one of the most
active members of the Mumbai SPICMACAY chapter. Pandit
Vishwa Mohan Bhatt,Padma Talwalkar (Vocal), Nayan Ghosh
(Sitar), Sultan Khan (Sarangi), Raja Kale (Vocal), Sonal Mansingh
(Odissi) and Ustad Abdul Haleem Jaffer Khan (Sitar) are
some virtuosos whom NITIE has been fortunate enough to

Empresario
The spirit of entrepreneurship is taken to higher levels every
year through Empresario, the entrepreneurship cell at
NITIE. As a recognition of their success, NITIE felicitates
entrepreneurs every year by conferring upon them “Most
Inspiring Entrepreneur of the year” and “Best Start-up of the
year” awards. Some of the past awardees include Mr. Tulsi
Tanti of Suzlon, Mr. Gopinath of Air Deccan, Mr. Rajat
Sharma of India TV, etc. Entrepreneurial events like the B-
plan contest, the Elevator pitch contest, Spardha, and
D’apprendre are held under the aegis of Empresario
alongside with Lakshya. These contests are a fovorine
with both student community, mainly those from top B-
schools like the IIMs, XLRI, ISB, FMS, etc. and also the
industry. The unique B-plan contest at NITIE is easily one
of the best B-plan contests held in the country.
Entrepreneurs from across various strata of the society
have been instrumental in providing support to
Empresario in the form of mentorship, jury, etc.
Samadhan
This is an online event hosted by NITIE students with the objective of
providing the engineering students a glimpse of what to expect in a
management school before they actually join one. A series of online
events test the participants’ creativity, decision taking capability and
other such skills which make a winning manager. The winners of
different events under Samadhan are invited to the campus and given
a chance to interact with the Business Visionaries during
Lakshya.

Faculty at NITIE
Learning at NITIE is a culmination of the aspirations of students and a world class faculty team. Rated by BW
Cosmode as the third best faculty team amongst B-School in India (2004), NITIE’s eminent faculty is a
judicious mix of industry expertise and academic wisdom.
The faculty, through their regular consultancy work, maintains constant contact with the industry, and
incorporates their experience into class room teaching. This provides students with valuable insights into the
dynamic business scenario
Admission requirements:
GATE qualified FIRST CLASS Engineering /Technology graduates in any branch (for SC/ST/PD
candidates there is 5% concession on first division % marks) are eligible to apply. Admission is based on
group discussion and interview with appropriate weightage given to GATE score (2007 & 2008 only).
Selection of Industry sponsored candidates with first class degree in engineering/technology with 2 years
industry experience is through personal interview only (NO GATE SCORE REQUIRED)
Financial Assistance:
GATE qualified get GOI teaching assistantship of
Rs. 5000/- per month and a contingency Grant of
Rs 5000/- per year. However SC/ST students are
granted financial assistance as per the scheme of
Govt. of India.
Seats:
A total of 90 seats are available. Reservation of
SC/ST and PD candidates is according to
Government regulation. Seats are also available for
sponsored candidates.

The fee for second year is to be paid before 15 June.
The sponsored candidates must deposit the fees in advance for the entire
Course.
In addition, the student is required to pay the following deposits with
confirmation of the selection.

Refunds of Fees and deposits Etc.
A) A candidate who does not join the programme after paying the tuition fee and has intimated the
institute of his/her decision of not joining, and if this intimation is received in writing by the institute
before commencement of the course and if the vacant seat is filled by the wait listed candidate then
the tuition fee will be refunded along with institute caution money deposit, the hostel caution money
deposit and the mess caution money deposit as per the GOI rules
B) When a student discontinues the course after joining the programme or is terminated by the
institute, whether in beginning or in mid-way and the resultant vacancy cannot be filled by the wait
listed candidates, then the tuition fee, hostel charges and the other annual charges paid by him/her
will be forfeited. His/her deposits including institute Caution Money Deposit, Hostel Caution Money
Deposit and Mess Caution Money Deposit etc. will be refunded to him/her after deducting the
outstanding amounts specified with regard to the NO DUES CERTIFICATE issued by various
departments.
Mediclaim:
Mediclaim policy is mandatory for all the students enrolling to various programmes. Yearly premium
coverage for Rs. 1,00,000/- will be collected along with other fees
Jurisdiction:
The courts in Mumbai alone shall have Jurisdiction in respect of any dispute which may arise pursuant to
your application, admission and all other aspects relating thereto.
