Title of Activity: Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe

Number of Teams & Group Size: At least 2 people If there is more than 4 people, divide everyone into 2 groups

Logistics Needed: 1 x A4 Paper / A1 Paper / Flipchart Paper 1 or 2 x Whiteboard Marker - Better if both Markers are of different colours

Time Allocated: 15 - 40 minutes

Goal: Win the big board by completing 3 small boards in a row

Preparation & Set-Up: Draw the following diagram on the paper: These 9 small squares make up 1 small board

These 9 big squares make up 1 big board

The diagram consists of 9 big squares (big board), each containing a smaller 9 squares (small board), in a hex shape

Directions for Conducting the Activity: 1. Divide players equally into 2 groups. Ask each team to appoint a representative who will be the sole person drawing the symbol. 2. Ask each team to choose a symbol, either X, or O. Brief everyone that they must take turns to draw their respective symbols within 1 of the small squares on the diagram. 3. Instruct participants that they can only draw within a small board that was determined by their opponents prior move. Example:

O must draw here O can choose any of these 9 small squares within this small board Whichever square O is drawn in, will determine X next move

X draws here

4. Thus, each team will take turns to draw their respective symbols within a small board that was determined by their opponents last drawing. 5. To win a small board, the team must have 3 of their respective symbols in a straight row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. 6. If a small board is completed without any team winning it, that small board is considered tied, and doesnt count for either team. 7. If the opponent send teams to a board that is already completed (won, lost, or tied), then that team may choose to draw their symbol in any of the remaining small boards. 8. The activity continues until one team has won 3 small boards in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Specific Rules: 1. Both players, (or both teams), must choose 1 symbol, using either X, or O. 2. Each player takes a turn to draw their symbol within 1 small square on the diagram. 3. Players must only draw their symbol within a board which was determined by their opponents prior move. 4. To win a small board, players must have 3 of their respective symbols in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

5. To win the entire game, players must win 3 small boards in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. 6. A small board can either be tied, won, or lost. If a small board is tied, then it doesnt count for either player. 7. If the opponent sends a player to a small board that is already completed, the player may choose any of the remaining small boards to draw their symbol.

Variations: 1. Have a small board that is tied count as won for both X, and O. 2. Whichever team is the first to complete 1 small board is considered the overall winner.
