Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this subject, students should be able to: Learning Outcomes (LO) 1 Explain the concepts of a static body in equilibrium, kinetics and kinematics motion of a particle. Apply the basic principles of statics and dynamics on mechanism and bodies. Solve problems related to the statics bodies in rest and kinematics-kinetics motions. Analyze systems and calculate related forces, loads, displacement, velocity and acceleration of a body or mechanism. Synopsis Statics and Dynamics are the primary topics of mechanics. Mechanics is the branch of physic that considers the action of forces on bodies that are at rest or in motion. This course will be offered to study the mechanics of rigid bodies at rest (statics) and in motion (dynamics). Topics included are: forces and equilibrium systems, moments & couples, structure & members, friction, centroids & moment of inertia, kinematics and kinetics.

Practical Application Practical works through four (4) laboratory experiments should be completed by students in order to apply the basic understanding of the theories. Assignments will be given during tutorial sessions and should be completed by the students in order to engage students in achieving the learning outcomes of the subject. Students will be divided into several groups which consist of 5-6 students in a group to conduct the practical works and assignments. The practical works will be carried out through the laboratory sessions. Students are required to write scientific reports based on the obtained experimental results and observations during the laboratory session.
