First of all, I’d like to say a very big thank you. For without you, your enthusiasm,
curiosity, energy and commitment, we wouldn’t be where we are today. U’Luvka
is about sharing, and with your help, that’s exactly what’s happening, all over the
world. So thank you.
U’Luvka is very close to my heart – so much of me, and my life has gone into
making it - that what I am sharing with you is something very personal. However,
looking back over the last few years, probably the moment that my dreams and
ambitions came into clarity was during my visits to Poland in the late 90s. I had a
great Polish friend who used to work with me in England, and he insisted that I visit
him and his family in Poland. I arrived at their home and was treated to a tradition
that goes back thousands of years: his mother brought us little plates of food to eat
– pickles, fish, potatoes and dark brown bread, and then, when the moment was
right and we had shrugged off the mantle of our journey and had settled at the
hearth, the vodka. It was served in little jugs, and as each person took their sip,
eye contact was made and the spirit of friendship passed amongst us. It was then
that I began to learn that in Poland, vodka is the spirit of friendship: it allows hearts
to open and for souls to freely communicate. It is about all the things we hold
dear in life: home, hearth, family - friendship, love & pleasure.
At that moment, a love affair began for me – one that was to take me back to
Poland again and again - a love affair not with vodka, but with the spirit within it,
the essential nature of it which speaks to the essential nature in us. As I travelled,
toasted and talked I was humbled by the honest and direct simplicity of the Poles,
and their open hearted connection with each other, and with me. Magical
journeys; magical times.
Here in U’Luvka’s first Brand Bible, we’ve tried to capture something equally
elusive, the ‘essence’ of U’Luvka itself. But if there’s one over-riding principle I can
offer you, one that we genuinely stick to, it’s this: if you do it with heart, if you do it
with love, you’ll do it with U’Luvka.
So let us raise a toast, and look each other in the eye: To Friendship, Love &
Pleasure

HOLDING THE HISTORY OF POLISH ROYAL VODKA IN YOUR HAND
U’Luvka’s ‘legless’ glasses are faithful copies of the original vodka drinking glasses
from the Polish Royal Court of 1606. You’ve probably noticed something very
distinctive about them; they have no bottom and you can’t put them down. This
made no sense to me when I first discovered them, except that whoever designed
them wanted to cause trouble. I then realised that their creator wanted to stay up
all night with his friends; and if you couldn’t put the U’Luvka glass down, you
weren’t going home.
Poles have always been famous for their generous hospitality. Dining with Polish
friends today, you will find your vodka glass continually replenished; a tradition
dating back 500 years. King Sigismund III’s hospitality at the Polish Royal Court was
legendary. Celebrations at Court were a one-way ticket: you arrived, your glass
was always full, you couldn’t put it down and then you were carried out. This is
where the tradition of breaking glasses started – “I’ve had enough!” This drinking
tradition was also used to award contracts of state to the last man standing.
Consequently, not many straight roads were constructed at this time.
King Sigismund now had a problem, as the Court was permanently in celebration.
So he consulted Sendivogius, his genius Court Alchemist, who created a royal elixir
so exceptional that you could drink all night and work all day.

THE SPIRIT OF FRIENDSHIP
The Arab alchemists who first created alcohol in the 8th Century recognised it as
the spirit latent in all plants and called it ‘eau de vie’ - the water of life. Both Russia
and Poland claim to have created vodka first, and the word for it in both
languages comes from the same word ‘woda’, which means ‘water’.
U’Luvka has been inspired by Sendivogius’ original royal elixir and we have striven
to replicate the purity, character and authenticity of the original using modern
distillation methods and a mixture of 50% rye, 25% what and 25% barley.
U’Luvka’s master distiller has been making and creating award-winning vodkas for
over 30 years, and U’Luvka is the synthesis of this experience. In homage to
Sendivogius, she wanted to create not just a great vodka, but also a great spirit.

U’LUVKA VODKA TASTING NOTES

Subtle and weirdly pleasing. Hints of rubber underlay on the nose. Smooth,
rounded and clean. Very slightly sweet with hints of aniseed and salted butter.
Oozes character. Scores 5/5.

U'Luvka is both beautiful and practical. The bottle leads you into the quality that
you would expect to find inside. The aesthetic is complete. Aesthetically pleasing
to look at and touch, and aesthetically a pleasure to drink. A combination unusual
in the vodka market.

Comments from the U.S.A
Anthony Dias Blue - Leading Spirits Critic & Founder of The San Francisco Spirits
Competition
“Mellow, Creamy U’Luvka is very sleek and silky with dry cereal flavors, honey and spice
tones and a beautifully lingering finish. 95/100 points.”
Brian Van Flandern – Spirit Critic, Lecturer & Manager, Bemelman’s Bar, Carlyle Hotel, NYC
“In an endless sea of new vodkas flooding the market U'luvka stands alone. It seems that
most vodkas are more interested in capturing market share than creating a quality
product. At the end of the day the key to any great spirit is passion and flavor. Friendship,
love and pleasure are not just the meaning of the symbol on the front of the bottle, they
are a testament to the passion of the producers. The hand blown phallic bottle suggests
virility and sexuality. And like a great cocktail that balances acid, sugar and alcohol,
U'luvka's recipe of wheat, barley and rye has a wonderfully assertive flavor that belies the
common notion that vodka has no taste. If ordering this vodka in a classic martini, one
would be well advised to order it stirred and not shaken so as to avoid dilution and take
advantage of the lingering finish.”

The U’Luvka logo is very special to us, as it is an alchemical power sign and
actually a little bit magic. It consists of the words ‘U’Luvka Vodka’ written in a
typeface created from an antique Polish scripts, and the alchemical emblem.
The word ‘U’Luvka’ refers to the ‘legless’ glasses.
Along with the U’Luvka symbol, we like to use our ‘positioning statement’
TRULY ENCHANTING. PERFECTLY BALANCED. Please use this where appropriate on
your U’Luvka communications and marketing materials.
Our toast to FRIENDSHIP, LOVE & PLEASURE is also something we say on our
packaging; we often use this as a way to sign-off our emails and letters, and on
more social stationery such as business cards.
The U’Luvka pattern is an elegant and versatile pattern inspired by period textiles,
ancient Polish manuscripts and glassware. We use it as a layer in the background
to add a sense of history and luxury to our communications. It is the pattern
etched onto our U’Luvka ‘legless’ glasses. Use it as a background for cocktail
menus or presentation covers, or printed as a smoky background on tissue paper.
We’ve found, however, that you need to use it sparingly or it can overwhelm the
simplicity of the U’Luvka symbol and other packaging. We’ve used it as the front
and back covers for this booklet, and you will find PDF files for it on your CD.
