About the Organizers

Indonesian Society of International Law The Indonesian Society of International Law ISIL was founded in 2001, under the support of His Excellencies Mochtar Kusumaatmadja and Hassan Wirajuda. ISIL is a non-profit organization that focuses on the promotion of international law in Indonesia. Since its establishment, ISIL has been entrusted to organize the Indonesian national rounds of two of the most prestigious international law moot court competitions, namely: the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the International Committee for the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition. In addition, ISIL also holds seminar and trainings for law students to develop their advocacy skills and further their understanding of international law. In June 2010, it co-organized, together with the Asian Society of International Law, the conference International Law as a Political Instrument? As result, ISIL has gained acknowledgement from government institutions, law schools and the Indonesian legal society for its contribution to the legal education in Indonesia.

The Korean Society of International Law KSIL was founded in 1953 as the first academic society in legal science in Korea. The mission of the Society is to foster the study of international law, to disseminate the knowledge of international law and to make a contribution to the establishment of international peace and cooperation in East Asia on the basis of international law and justice. Since its establishment the Society has grown into a premier institution for research, education and promotion of international law in Korea. The Society will continue to provide stimulating academic events as well as fruitful publications in international law.

About the Conference This year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia supports a joint international conference organized by ISIL in collaboration with KSIL. The conference deliberations are divided into three sessions, each of which will discuss the following issues: 1) territorial disputes; 2) maritime disputes; and 3) world trade organization disputes; with the central theme of Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes in Asia. The conference will be attended by notable scholars from Indonesia and Korea i.e. His Excellencies Marty Natalegawa, Hasjim Djalal, Nugroho Wisnumurti and Prof. Etty R. Agoes, Prof. Pae Keun Park from Pusan National University, Prof. Seok Yong Lee from Hannam University, and Prof.Won Mok Choi from Ewha Women's University where each speaker is expected to head his/her paper in advance. Notable scholars as speakers will provide a brief presentation, followed by active discussion among participants. The conference is a forum for exchange of views and intelectual exercise on legal impediments in the application of international law and principles in the region. The conference is open to all public and private universities and academic staff, government institutions, the Judiciary, members of the Bar, parliamentarians, policy-makers, diplomatic missions, and NGOs.
