Not covered in this document are any customer-specific examples of any custom configuration. All examples are for demonstration purposes only.

Service Pack Process and Files

Service Pack Process and Files

SmartPlant Materials customers are notified every time a new SmartPlant Materials Service Pack is issued. The Intergraph Product Center released SmartPlant Materials Service Pack 10 on September 7th, 2005. This Service Pack 10 will be used to show all the appropriate steps that need to be taken to install this Service Pack. Once you have been notified about a new Service Pack from Intergraph, you can use the link provided in the email sent to all customers to download a zip file containing the Service Pack files. For example (Service Pack 10 link):

SmartPlant Materials Service Packs are delivered in a packaged zip file. They are cumulative so each Service Pack contains all the updates to bring your SmartPlant Materials installation up to date with the latest Service Pack. The following is an example of the contents of the Service Pack file:

The files in each Service Pack should be extracted to a pre-determined location for software updates. Once extracted, you can begin the Service Pack evaluation and installation process. In addition to the actual Service Pack files, Intergraph sends a link to a readme file with installation instructions.

Service Pack Process and Files

Application Server Updates

Every Service Pack is broken down into two main parts. One of the two main parts of every SmartPlant Materials Service Pack is the Application Server update file, which is zipped in the main download file. When extracted from the main Service Pack file, the contents of the Application Server zip file (ex: 612ServicePack10_appserver.zip) just need to be placed in the SmartPlant Materials Software installation location on the Application Server. Note

Before applying ANY Service Packs, a backup should be made of the current Service Pack files on the Application Server.

The extraction process should use the following settings (activate the Overwrite existing files and Use folder names WinZip options to extract the files into the appropriate folders):

Database Server Updates

The other main part of every SmartPlant Materials Service Pack is the Database Server update file, which is also zipped in the main download file. The Database Server zip file (for example: 612ServicePack10_appserver.zip) should be extracted into a separate folder, which can be used as the SQL*Plus working directory. The updates to the Database Server (as opposed to the Application Server) are scriptbased because the updates are actually being made to the SmartPlant Materials physical database objects. When extracting the zip file, activate the Use folder names WinZip option to extract the files into the appropriate folders. Once the files have been extracted, it should look as follows:

The Service Pack updates for the Database Server are prepared to be run from an SQL*Plus session with the Start in location set to the above mentioned working directory. Once the SQL*Plus session is opened and connected to the target database as M_SYS, just execute the following:

The scripts will have various processes and prompts that will need to be followed to successfully install the database updates. Be prepared to enter the passwords of SYS, M_SYS, and DISCO. The Oracle utilities imp and loadjava must be available on the machine from which the Service Pack installation is performed. Be aware that all Custom Packages (CIPs) modified with the Service Pack will be saved in the form of files in the installation_logs folder. These files might be used to implement the changes to the customized procedures after finishing the Service Pack installation.

Evaluating the Impact of Service Packs

Evaluating the Impact of Service Packs

It is crucial that every customer evaluate each Service Pack to determine the impact (if any) to their current configuration or any customization that has been done to the delivered product. Intergraph has made this process possible by including documentation about the updates in each Service Pack. This documentation is included in the main Service Pack file download. An example is shown below for Service Pack 10. The file name of this example document is 61SP10_DBDiff.pdf.

These files contain the actual changes to all the objects in the SmartPlant Materials database. Also included in each Service Pack is a Release Notes document that gives additional information related to the updates that are addressed in the Service Pack. The file name of this example document is 612SP10_RelNotes.pdf.

files list the updates addressed, based on the official Intergraph service request or applicable number. If the information about a specific update is lengthy, there will be a reference to an additional file included in the Service Pack files that will explain the update in more depth. These additional files will be stored in a folder underneath the SmartPlant Materials home directory.
