HYDERABAD: Yet another con act linked to realtor Gowri Shankar Gupta has come to light. By invoking the name of realtor major DLF, a Gupta-based company duped the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) into jointly developing an agriculture complex at Moosapet village in the city. It took three years for the HMDA to wake up to the con game after DLF informed them that they were in no way connected to the venture. After HMDA lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Station, the cops slapped cases against two associates of Gupta, and are now on the lookout for them. According to sources, Manoj Sharma, director of SBPL Developers Pvt Ltd, a company floated by Gupta, and his associate Jaffer Khan, claimed to represent a firm called 'DLF SBPL Developers' in which the realtor major was shown as a partner, and entered into a lease agreement with HMDA in August 2008 for developing the agriculture complex at Moosapet village. Incidentally, Manoj Sharma is one of the accused along with GS Gupta in the case registered earlier by DLF wherein it was alleged that Gupta and Co cheated the realtor major to the tune of Rs 280 crore. The First Information Report (FIR) which was registered based on the complaint given by HMDA estate officer M Ashok Kumar said that, on the request of DLF Building India Ltd, HMDA (which was then called Huda) decided to allot 24.23 acres of land at Moosapet village, Balanagar mandal for establishing an integrated Mega Agriculture Hub. The authorised signatory of DLF Building India Ltd informed the vice-chairman of Huda to execute the lease deed in the name of their group's subsidiary DLF SBPL Developers Pvt Ltd, having its office at Jhandenwala Extension, Naaz Cinema Complex, New Delhi. "One S Durga Prasad, advocate, signed the lease deep as the authorised signatory of DLF SBPL Developers Pvt Ltd on August 27, 2008. In addition to it, Manoj Sharma and Jaffer Khan produced their driving licence as ID proof while signing the lease deed as witnesses. The physical possession of the land was handed over to Manoj Sharma on January 12, 2009," the estate officer said. The lease rent was fixed at Rs 39.64 lakh per month, which was supposed to be paid by DLF SBPL from the date of conversion of land, namely July 22, 2010. "Since DLF SBPL did not pay the lease amount, notice was sent to its office at Naaz Cinema Complex, New Delhi to pay the lease rental of Rs 3.96 crore. It was also informed that action would be taken to terminate the lease deed for violation of lease conditions if the lease rentals are not paid immediately," HMDA informed DLF SBPL during one of their communications. After few more correspondence, to the shock of HMDA, they received a letter from DLF SBPL Developers Pvt Ltd Sansad Marg, New Delhi, which said that DLF SBPL Developers Pvt Ltd or any of its authorised signatory representatives have never entered into any such lease with Huda and the company has not authorised any person to sign any such lease deed."They also requested us to investigate and find out who has signed the alleged lease deed using their companies name without any authorization from the company," HMDA officials informed the police. When the whole matter was brought to the notice of the state government, the officials of HMDA were directed to register a criminal case. A few days ago, based on the complaint given by the officials of HMDA, the Central Crime Station (CCS) registered criminal case under Sections 420 (cheating) and 419 (cheating by impersonation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Manoj and Jaffer. Predictably, like GS Gupta, his two associates too are absconding and the cops are on the lookout for them. It took three years for the HMDA to wake up to the con game after DLF informed them that they were in no way connected to the venture.
