Statement of Purpose

Ref: Application for the Masters in Aerospace Engineering. Dear Sir/Madam, I have the pleasure to write this letter to express my intent to join the Master in Aerospace Engineering. Academic Background Since 2007, I have pursued my Aeronautical Engineering with enthusiasm at KBN College of engineering affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University which is one the prestigious and finest institutions in imparting technical education in INDIA. My special interests are in the field of aerodynamics and I am also highly interested in aerospace engines and gas turbines. Aerospace structures is a multi-disciplinary field whose objective is to produce structures that meet all the requirements of a flying vehicle (or, in other words, actually build the airplane, rocket, etc.), Airframe design is a field of aerospace engineering that combines aerodynamics, materials technology and manufacturing methods to achieve balances of performance, reliability and cost. Therefore the components for these have to be precisely manufactured and have to satisfy demanding requirements. From the beginning of my studies I was fascinated by these Structural engineers that have very important responsibilities in aircraft/spacecraft design and operation. Their main responsibility is to ensure the structural integrity of the flight vehicle while keeping the weight as low as possible. In order to produce a safe structure that is Optimal. These areas of concentration still prove to be highly fascinating and satisfying. The College Project At my graduation year, I was involved in four- students collage project to develop an Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAVs), our group was subdivided into smaller groups which involved a lot of multitasking abilities like co-ordination, planning, management and implementation of the project from its inception to its final execution , the best skills I gained is to gather information needed under lack of resources, do a lot of experimental work , contact other professionals to be able to finish this task accurately and on time. And I also was well trained on leadership and inspirit of teamwork. This project helped me to relate my theoretical work to a practical scenario. It provided me with a deeper understanding of the subject and a sound technical base which also aroused a greater liking for the subject.

My Goals I plan to work towards a Master Program with a focus on Airframe Design. I would also like to follow up my interests in Aircraft/Spacecraft design through my course work. I feel that this should be my next step on my road to a research career in Aerospace science, and my future plans after finishing this program is to gain a PhD in Aerospace engineering.

Why University of Missouri Columbia? I am convinced of the University's excellent reputation among its students and graduates. Students from a variety of countries are currently enrolled at University of Missouri Columbia doing research and working together successfully on demanding scientific projects. Therefore your University offers me the lifetime chance to become thoroughly acquainted with different methods and new points of view, as well as meeting fellow students from different regions and with various cultural backgrounds with whom I can exchange knowledge and experiences. American universities place great importance on the ability of students to think independently, read widely and critically, present logical arguments, participate in debate, and function in teams. I reaffirm my faith in my chosen discipline of study in the branch of Aerospace Engineering and serve my motherland with the technical expertise gained by studying in the United States. Thank you for your time and for considering my request. I am looking forward to hearing back from you positively regarding my application. Yours sincerely, (Mr. Shafiq Ahmed Shahbaz)
