Protective Coating for Cementitious Substrates
Product Description
Uses Sikagard -680S is a one-component solvent containing coating based on acrylic resin. Sikagard -680S clear-glaze Colourless material drying to a glossy finish, suitable as refresher and protective coating for exposed aggregate-concrete. Gives a permanent wet-look appearance. Sikagard -680S transparent A mat lightly pigmented coating for concrete substrates. To adjust mixes with Sikagard -680S finish in order to achieve different grades of transparency. Sikagard -680S finish Top coat, drying to a mat finish, available in a wide range of colours. To protect and embellish faades and other building elements, especially on SikaTop or Sika MonoTop sealing mortars. Sikagard -680S has the following properties: Outstanding resistance to weathering. Acts as an effective carbonation-barrier (Certificate LPM). Reduced water absorption. Excellent resistance to yellowing and chalking. Excellent water-vapour permeability. Excellent adhesion on cementitious substrates (SikaTop, Sika MonoTop, EpoCem products, and concrete). Easy to apply. Fast drying time. EMPA: Federal Material Testing Laboratory (Dbendorf, Switzland): Certificate for use in Tunnelling LPM: Laboratory for Preparation and Methology (Beinwil am See, Switzland): Certificate for use as system. University of Dortmund (FRG): Diffusion of carbondioxyde and water vapour. Clear-glaze: clear, transparent. Transparent: green 31 lightly pigmented Finish: green 31 (approx. RAL 7032). pebble 58 (light grey). travertin 01 (white). Other colours are available on request, with minimum quantities per order. Finish and clear-glaze: 30 kg pails. 12,5 kg pails. Transparent: 20 kg pails. Store in cool conditions, protected from moisture. 24 months from date of production if stored properly in unopened original packing. Clear-glaze: 0.9 kg/I. Transparent: 1.0 kg/I. Finish: ~ 1.4 kg/I, depending on colour shade. Finish: approx. 45% ~ 12'000

Coating System

Sikagard -680Sclear-glaze 2 coats at approx. 0.15 kg/m2. Sikagard -680 S transparent 2 coats at approx. 0.15 kg/m2 plus possibly a further coat of Sikagard -680S finish according to actual requirement. Sikagard -680S finish Normal 2 coats at approx. 0.2 kg/m2, for intensive colours 3 coats.

Application Details
Consumption Surface preparation

Finish: 2 coats at 0.2 Kg/m2 result in approx. 130 m (0.13 mm) dft. The substrate must be dense, free of loose and friable particles, dust and dirt. Remnants of release agents - especially oil - and wax - based must be removed. SikaTop or Sika MonoTop mortars may be overcoated after approx. 5 days. Sikagard -680S is supplied ready to use. However, before applying the material must be stirred thoroughly. At very low or high temperatures, the coats may be thinned with up to 10% Sika Thinner 12. First coat to very dense non-absorbent substrate must be thinned with 10% Sika Thinner 12. Priming with either Sikagard -700S or -701W is recommended (see relevant data sheets). On very absorbent substrates priming with Sikagard -680S transparent prior to application of Sikagard -680S is normally done. Sikagard -680S can be applied by brush or short piled lamb skin roller. Airless spray: Requires the addition of approx. 7% Sika Thinner 12. Equipment with a pressure of 180 bar, nozzle with opening diameter of 0.38-0.66 mm and a spraying angle of 50 - 80. First coat to be applied by brush or roller. Minimum application and substrate temperature: + 5C (observe dew point). Maximum application and substrate temperature: + 30C (+25C for Transparent). Do not apply in direct sunshine. At rising temperatures, do not apply to concrete substrates without sealer coat. Between Sikagard -700S or -701W and Sikagard -680S min . 5 hrs. and max. 1 week. Temp. Between coats Rain resistant Dust dry Rainfast 10C ~8 hrs. ~ 90 min. 20C ~5 hrs. ~ 60 min ~ 20 min ~1 hrs 30C ~3 hrs. ~ 30min. Use Sika Thinner 12 to clean implements. Do not dispose of into water or soil but according to local regulations 3, 31 c), free quantity: 1000 kg. Wear gloves and goggles. In areas with insufficient ventilation wear breathing mask. Non-toxic under relevant Swiss health and safety codes.
