User Configuration
In order to use the installed OpenFOAM package, complete the following 1. Open the . b a s h r c file in the users home directory in an editor, e.g. by typing in a terminal window (note the dot) g e d i t~ / . b a s h r c 2. At the bottom of that file, add the following line (see Note 1) and save the file s o u r c e/ o p t / o p e n f o a m 2 2 0 / e t c / b a s h r c 3. Open a new terminal window (see Note 2) and test that the i c o F o a mapplication, from the OpenFOAM package, is working by typing i c o F o a mh e l p 4. A Usage message should appear. Your installation and user configuration is complete. Note 1: If a similar line has already been added to the users . b a s h r c file, e.g. for a previous version of OpenFOAM, then the line should be deleted or, alternatively, commented out by inserting a # at the beginning of the line. Note 2: If a user wishes to execute i c o F o a m in the same terminal window, they must first register the change to the . b a s h r c file by typing at the terminal prompt (note the dots): s o u r c e $H O M E / . b a s h r c

Getting Started
Create a project directory within the $H O M E / O p e n F O A M directory named <U S E R >2 . 2 . 0 (e.g. c h r i s 2 . 2 . 0 for user chris and OpenFOAM version 2.2.0) and create a directory named r u n within it, e.g. by typing: m k d i rp $F O A M _ R U N Copy the t u t o r i a l examples directory in the OpenFOAM distribution to the r u ndirectory. If the OpenFOAM environment variables are set correctly, then the following command will be correct: c pr $F O A M _ T U T O R I A L S $F O A M _ R U N Run the first example case of incompressible laminar flow in a cavity: c d $F O A M _ R U N / t u t o r i a l s / i n c o m p r e s s i b l e / i c o F o a m / c a v i t y b l o c k M e s h i c o F o a m p a r a F o a m Refer to the OpenFOAM User Guide to get started.
