Running head: BLENDING A WAY

Blending a Way to Integrate, Innovate, and Inspire Community Court School Learning Scott A. McKee EDU698 Rebecca Waters Post University Module 3, 2014

BLENDING A WAY Topic, Mission, and Vision

The topic of edudigitalteacher.coms Capstone Project is to develop innovative methods and pedagogy to integrate existing resources and technology to inspire and enhance learning in the court school learning environment at the Bear Creek Academy in Merced Countys Iris Garrett Juvenile Justice Complex. The mission and vision statements of edudigitalteacher.com are: Mission Statement: To create and develop a digital learning environment for court school classrooms. All students can learn and are entitled to access to similar resources in the process. The plan is to develop a digital learning environment for working with the lowest achieving students in the best situation and achieve positive results. Vision Statement: To create a dynamic and effective digital learning environment using modern instructional methods while utilizing technology. The intended outcome is to create a model that other similar institutions could adapt to provide educational services to students attending court schools. This project will be an on-going process of development that will continue long after this graduate program is completed. Scope and Scale For the purpose of EDU699 the scope and scale of this Capstone Project will to create and begin to use the first unit for Biology that will become the pilot model to complete the remaining units in a Biology course, Earth and Physical Science, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra courses over the next year. The remaining components of the long-term project include; ongoing development of these courses and acquisition and integration of more technology to create a 1:1 digital learning environment.

BLENDING A WAY Focus and Concept

To accomplish this mission and vision, the Capstone Project will incorporate a blended learning pedagogy, using either Google Sites or COURSEsites, which will become the platform and existing traditional methods and resources to drive learning in science and math. Upon successful completion, this project will become a model for other subject areas that can be used in court school learning environments with progressive 21st century teachers and minimal technology to integrate, innovate, and inspire learners. Ultimately, by using a blended learning pedagogy and technology effectively, the teacher will be able to integrate, innovate, and inspire a diverse group of students to achieve common core standards, pass state requirements exams, and recover credits to increase graduation rates while allowing the teacher to monitor student progress more efficiently. Meeting Program Outcomes and Concentration Goals This Capstone Project will meet the needs of the Post Universitys M.Ed. in Instructional Design and Technology program by specifically addressing the following program outcomes and concentration goals for Instructional Design and Technology: Core Program Outcomes Students will develop a vision for the future of education, a personal critical and creative perspective on issues and changes in education, and several means to adapt to future realities. Students will develop expertise in designing and delivering instruction to support the achievement of a diverse population of learners of all ages in a variety of settings (e.g., public education, private education, charter schools, corporations, elearning, et al.).

BLENDING A WAY

Students will be able to define, understand, analyze, and use metrics to measure student, programmatic, and institutional achievement.

Students will be able to identify and use current relevant technology in the service of better learning.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of creativity and innovation as applied to education,

Students will develop and demonstrate leadership thinking in critical areas of interest within their field.

Concentration in Instructional Design & Technology Students will be able to design and develop learning environments using models of instructional design, such as the ADDIE model. Students will understand and be able to apply theories of design and instruction to the development, design, and implementation of educational experiences and events. Students will be able to integrate appropriate technology in a diversity of educational settings, including schools, universities, corporations, non-profits and government agencies.

In the process of completing this project beyond the scope and scale of this program, all above mentioned program outcomes and concentration goals and others not mentioned will be utilized as all the courses are developed and more technology becomes available to create a 1:1 digital learning environment over the next two years. This is not the end, only the beginning, of the future for teaching and learning in court school educational settings.
