1,1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see. 1,2 How long, O LORD, shall I cry, and Thou wilt not hear? I cry out unto Thee of iolence, and Thou wilt not sa e. 1,3 !hy dost Thou show "e ini#uity, and beholdest "ischief? $nd why are spoiling and iolence before "e? so that there is strife, and contention ariseth. 1,4 Therefore the law is slacked, and right doth ne er go forth% for the wicked doth beset the righteous% therefore right goeth forth per erted. 1,5 Look ye a"ong the nations, and behold, and wonder "ar ellously% for, behold, a work shall be wrought in your days, which ye will not belie e though it be told you. 1,6 &or, lo, I raise up the 'haldeans, that bitter and i"petuous nation, that "arch through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling(places that are not theirs. 1,7 They are terrible and dreadful% their law and their "a)esty proceed fro" the"sel es. 1,8 Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are "ore fierce than the wol es of the desert% and their horse"en spread the"sel es% yea, their horse"en co"e fro" far, they fly as a ulture that hasteth to de our. 1,9 They co"e all of the" for iolence% their faces are set eagerly as the east wind% and they gather capti es as the sand. 1,10 $nd they scoff at kings, and princes are a derision unto the"% they deride e ery stronghold, for they heap up earth, and take it. 1,11 Then their spirit doth pass o er and transgress, and they beco"e guilty* e en they who i"pute their "ight unto their god. 1,12 $rt not Thou fro" e erlasting, O LORD "y +od, "y Holy One? we shall not die. 2,9 !oe to hi" that gaineth e il gains for his house, that he "ay set his nest on high, that he "ay be deli ered fro" the power of e il1 2,10 Thou hast de ised sha"e to thy house, by cutting off "any peoples, and hast forfeited thy life. 2,11 &or the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the bea" out of the ti"ber shall answer it. {P} 2,12 !oe to hi" that buildeth a town with blood, and establisheth a city by ini#uity1 2,13 /ehold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the peoples labour for the fire, and the nations weary the"sel es for anity? 2,14 &or the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters co er the sea. {P} 2,15 !oe unto hi" that gi eth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy eno" thereto, and "akest hi" drunken also, that thou "ayest look on their nakedness1 2,16 Thou art filled with sha"e instead of glory, drink thou also, and be unco ered% the cup of the LORD.right hand shall be turned unto thee, and filthiness shall be upon thy glory. 2,17 &or the iolence done to Lebanon shall co er thee, and the destruction of the beasts, which "ade the" afraid% because of "en.s blood, and for the iolence done to the land, to the city and to all that dwell therein. 2,18 !hat profiteth the gra en i"age, that the "aker thereof hath gra en it, e en the "olten i"age, and the teacher of lies% that the "aker of his work trusteth therein, to "ake du"b idols? {S} 2,19 !oe unto hi" that saith to the wood* .$wake., to the du"b stone* .$rise1. 'an this teach? /ehold, it is o erlaid with gold and sil er, and there is no breath at all in the "idst of it. 2,20 /ut the LORD is in His holy te"ple% let all the earth keep silence before Hi". {S} 3,1 $ prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. 2pon -higionoth. 3,2 O LORD, I ha e heard the report of Thee, and a" afraid% O LORD, re i e Thy work in the "idst of the years, in the "idst of the years "ake it known% in wrath re"e"ber co"passion. 3,3 +od co"eth fro" Te"an, and the Holy One fro" "ount 3aran. -elah His glory co ereth the hea ens, and the earth is full of His praise. 3,4 $nd a brightness appeareth as the light% rays hath He at His side% and there is the hiding of His power. 3,5 /efore hi" goeth the pestilence, and fiery bolts go forth at His feet. 3,6 He standeth, and shaketh the earth, He beholdeth, and "aketh the nations to tre"ble% and the e erlasting "ountains are dashed in pieces, the ancient hills do bow% His goings are as of old. 3,7 I see the tents of 'ushan in affliction% the curtains of the land of 4idian do tre"ble. 3,8 Is it, O LORD, that against the ri ers, is it that Thine anger is kindled against the ri ers, or Thy wrath against the sea? that Thou dost ride upon Thy horses, upon Thy chariots of ictory? 3,9 Thy bow is "ade #uite bare% sworn are the rods of the word. -elah Thou dost clea e the earth with ri ers. 3,10 The "ountains ha e seen Thee, and they tre"ble% the te"pest of waters floweth o er% the deep uttereth its oice, and lifteth up its hands on high. 3,11 The sun and "oon stand still in their habitation% at the light of Thine arrows as they go, at the shining of Thy glittering spear. 3,12 Thou "archest through the earth in indignation, Thou threshest the nations in anger. 3,13 Thou art co"e forth for the deli erance of Thy people, for the deli erance of Thine anointed% Thou woundest the head out of the house of the wicked, unco ering the foundation e en unto the neck. -elah {P} 3,14 Thou hast stricken through with his own rods the head of his rulers, that co"e as a whirlwind to scatter "e% whose re)oicing is as to de our the poor secretly. 3,15 Thou hast trodden the sea with Thy horses, the foa"ing of "ighty waters. 3,16 !hen I heard, "ine
