Firstly you need a network crossover cable. Available from most computer stores.

This is a special type of cable (not a standard LAN cable) Secondly Make sure both computers are on the same workgroup. TO do this Right click on My computer, Properties, go to the Computer Name Tab, See what is written in Workgroup. Change one computer by clicking on change and then type in the name of the other computer in the workgroup space down the bottom. Do not make thecomputer part of a domain. You want Workgroup. This name change will require a computer reboot. When both computers are on the same workgroup, we need to set IP Addresses. In Control Panel, Open Network Settings. Right click on Local Area Connections and select properties. Under the heading "This connection uses the following items, Find Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) Highlight it, Make sure you don't untick the box, and click on properties Under the heading Use the following IP Address ENter in the Following on ONE Computer. IP Address 192.168.0.10 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway LEave Blank Under the Heading Obtain DNS Serveraddress automatically Set this to Automatic. Don't enter anything in. On the second computer Make the IP Address 192.168.0.20 Everything else the same. This should be all. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now enter IP (Internet protocol) address in both computers manually according to below and select OK Option. First computer (computer name NAVIN PC) Enter IP Address: 192.168.0.1 Enter Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Second computer (computer name- ABHISHEK PC) Enter IP Address: 192.168.0.2 Enter Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

After inserting IP address in both computer properly, restart it. when computer will load windows 7, click on start search box and type network. click on this link.

In network tab, you find all connected computers in networking under similar workgroup.

You can't use an ordinary Ethernet cable - you need a cross-over cable.

By creating a Homegroup you can share files through a local network. See here for instructions on Windows 7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/homegroup and here for Windows 8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/homegroup-from-start-to-finish. Create your homegroup on Windows 7 and select the categories you wish to share. Also, make sure you give homegroup users the correct permissions. Then join the homegroup on Windows 8. You will need to type in the password created in Windows' 7 homegroup. Read "join a homegroup" in the instructions. To just share a specific folder using homegroup, right click on the folder and select Share with > Homegroup. Now you'll be able to view files on one computer using the other and in the same way copy and paste them through network. If you just want to do a file transfer once, remember to undo the sharing settings. It is not recommended to have all of your folders shared via network, even though homegroup is supposed to be password protected. Hope this helps

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------To connect pc and laptop to share data you will need a cat5 lan cable. 1. connect the pc and laptop with cable. 2. Assuming that both are running Windows OS , you have to put them under the same network to share data. for that go to ipv4 setting and Put the following value on 1st computer Ip address 192.168.1.1 Subnet mask 225.225.225.0 Default gateway 192.168.1.3

Put the following value on 2nd computer Ip address 192.168.1.3 Subnet mask 225.225.225.0 Default gateway 192.168.1.1 3. now you have them under same network you need to share folder, you can access the other computers under network option of computer. SOURCE http://goo.gl/pvLfX
