Mighty Minds 2009 - Rules and Regulations

1. This Competition is open to all secondary schools in Malaysia (The Contestant). The maximum number of teams permitted per Contestant is two for each category. ach team must consist of ! students" all with #alid Malaysian identity cards and accompanied by a teacher$in$charge at all times. %. There are two categories in the competition $ Category I& 'pen to (orm 1" % ) ! students and Category II & 'pen to (orm * ) + students. !. ,ll students participating in the competition must be in school uniform during each segment of the competition. The students shall be re-uired to present their identity cards and confirmation letters issued by The Star for #erification prior to commencement of each competition at the #enue. *. .o substitution or omission of any team member shall be permitted at any time and the same team members shall be present in all segments of the competition. +. The competition shall comprise of two stages. /tage 'ne& State Challenge" conducted at state le#el. The top winning team of each category from each state will represent the state in the .ational Challenge. /tage Two& National Challenge" to be held in the 0lang 1alley in ,ugust %223. 4. There are two (%) challenges at the State Challenge& a. First Challenge: $ Teams in each category to answer -uestions in nglish based on 5eneral 0nowledge" Mathematics and /cience principles through an interacti#e de#ice. $ The top !2 teams in each category will proceed to the /econd Challenge. b. Second Challenge: $ The challenge will be based on a specific hands$on tas6 which re-uires each group to assemble a model using Mathematics and /cience principles and with written logical explanations. There are four (*) challenges at the National Challenge& c. First Challenge Day : $ Teams in each category to answer -uestions in nglish based on 5eneral 0nowledge" Mathematics and /cience principles through an interacti#e de#ice. Team members to answer indi#idually with collecti#e team scores ta6en into account. $ ,ll teams in each category will proceed to the /econd Challenge. d. Second Challenge Day : $ The challenge will be based on a specific hands$on tas6 which re-uires each group to assemble a model using Mathematics and /cience principles and with written logical explanations. $ The top fi#e (+) teams in each category will proceed to the Third Challenge. e. !hird Challenge Day 2: $ The top fi#e (+) teams in each category will be re-uired to answer -uestions in nglish based on 5eneral 0nowledge" Mathematics and /cience principles through an interacti#e de#ice (based on the speed -ui7 bu77er system)" indi#idually as well as collecti#ely.

". Fourth Challenge Day 2: $ ach team will be re-uired to present their model created during the /econd Challenge on 8ay 1. The presentation will re-uire the team to explain the specific Mathematics and /cience principles in nglish" which they ha#e applied in assembling their model. 9. ,ll registered teams must first compete in the :reliminary rounds at the state le#el. ;. ,ll entries must be submitted through a prescribed entry form" duly completed and endorsed by the school principal. , registration fee of <M12 per category per school must be made in fa#our of /tar :ublications (M) =hd" current account .o. %$1*%99$ 222*9!*$+ at the nearest <>= =ranch. 3. ,ll entries and registration fees must be recei#ed by the 'rganisers on or before the stipulated deadline. ?ate entries and payments will be dis-ualified. :roof of posting is not proof of receipt. 12. :rior to the commencement of each segment of the Competition& $ ,ll the ! members of each team" along with their teacher$in$charge must report at the registration counter according to the stipulated programme. ?atecomers@incomplete teams shall be dis-ualified. $ The -ui7 master will explain the doAs and donAts of the Competition. /uch briefing shall form the integral part of the <ules and <egulations of the competition. 11. ,ll team members are strictly not permitted to be in possession of any electronic de#ices" including but not limited to handphones" cameras" :8,s" etc during the competition. 1%. Copying or attempting to copy and@or obtain assistance from illegitimate sources during the competition by any team member shall dis-ualify the entire team. 1!. The 'rganisers shall not be responsible for any damage to and@or loss of personal belongings and@or personal inBuries sustained in the course of the Competition. 1*. The CudgesA@'rganisersA decision in all matters relating to the competition shall be final and absolute and binding on the participants. 1+. ,ll pri7es are strictly not transferable" assignable" exchangeable or redeemable by the contestants in any form or manner other than that specified by the 'rganisers. ,ll specific or special terms and conditions that are attached to the :ri7es (whether by the 'rganisers or sponsors) must be adhered to by the Contestants. 14. Df at any time during the competition or after the competition" a winner is found not complying with any of the <ules and <egulations" the 'rganisers reser#e the right to cancel and@or reco#er the claimed pri7e at its sole discretion. Dn such a situation" the winning entry or the winning team will be dis-ualified and a new winning team will be determined by the panel of Budges. 19. Dn consideration of the 'rganisers offering the contestants the opportunity to participate" the Contestants hereby unconditionally and irre#ocably agree and shall ensure that all team members" the teacher$in$charge and the school authorities agree to the following &$ $ The members of the winning team shall be a#ailable for post$competition production" recording and publicity of the competition" such as a) inter#iews (which shall be #ideo tape recorded)E and@or b) ta6ing of still photographs" audio or #isual recording for promotions and publicity purposes.

The 'rganisers reser#e the right to photograph@#ideo tape the team members of any Contestants@winners indi#idually and@or collecti#ely and use them along with their personal particulars at any time for news and commercial purposes" without prior notice or consent. $ ,ll entries and submissions including but not limited to the models and ideas shall become the property of the 'rganisers. 1;.
