DIRECT
LEEDS
Europe Direct Leeds is based in the
Information Centre in Leeds Central Library
and acts as an interface between citizens
and the European Union at local level. It
provides an information service and also
holds, and participates in, events and
activities to raise the profile of the EU and its
aims and institutions. Europe Directs are
funded by the European Commission.
There is a network of 16 Europe Direct
information relays in the UK, Europe Direct
Leeds is currently the only one in the
Yorkshire and the Humber region. There is
also a wider network of 400 across Europe
that has been established for some time.

Europe Direct aims:

• To enable local citizens to obtain
information, assistance and answers to
questions about the European Union’s
institutions, legislation, policies,
programme and funding
opportunities.
• To actively promote local and regional
debate about the European Union
and its policies.
• To allow the European institutions to
improve the dissemination of
information tailored to local and
regional needs.
• To give the public the opportunity to •
send feedback to the European Union
institutions in the form of questions,
opinions and suggestions.
Services include:
• Free access to the internet to locate
useful European websites
• Free access to the Europe Direct phone
help line 00 800 6789 1011 which
answers enquiries in any of the official
EU languages or log on to the Europe
Direct Contact Centre http://
ec.europa.eu/europedirect/index
en.htm
Referral to the most suitable agencies
in the UK and Europe who can help
with enquiries.
• Referral to a team of experts at the
Europe Direct helpdesk for help with
difficult enquiries
• Europe Direct Leeds is a local partner
of Eurodesk which answer enquiries,
give funding advice and produce
information materials specifically for
young people.
