Steven Cohen, Superintendent of Schools BOARD OF EDUCATION Regular Public Meeting Agenda - DRAFT January 23, 2014 The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District Board of Education is the authorized agency responsible for setting educational policy in the District. It consists of seven members who each serve three-year terms and receive no salary or other financial compensation. The meetings, except for Executive Sessions, are held before the public. The Board of Education may convene to Executive Session immediately after opening the meeting. At the end of the Executive Session, the Board of Education will re-convene to the Regular Meeting. Arrival and departure times of the Board of Education members shall be noted in the minutes and within the order of events. A maximum of half hour will be allocated for agenda items Statements of Residents with a three minute limit per individual. Each speaker must be a resident of the District. Residents wishing to make comments or raise questions shall state their name and address. Public discussion is prohibited on matters relating to staff and students at which their reputation, privacy, or rights to due process or the rights of others to due process, could be in some way violated. Residents will be permitted to participate in Board of Education discussion and agenda item Discussion, however Board of Education members will speak first. Each resident will be limited to one input with a two minute maximum. A time limit for residents discussion will be no more than 10 minutes unless a majority of the Board wants to extend the time due to the nature of the topic. Residents will address the Board and not each other during this discussion. Each Board Member voting on a motion shall be permitted to state the reason for doing so and the statement shall be noted in the minutes. The public, in its comments, will refrain from making any direct references to student or staff members. Such references to individual students or staff members are inappropriate in a public forum and should instead be conducted in private conversation with an appropriate member of the staff. 2013-2014 Annual Budget Vote and Elections Date: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District declares that the Annual Budget Vote and Elections be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM at the Shoreham-Wading River High School Auxiliary Gym, 250A Route 25A, Shoreham-Wading River, New York; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a budget hearing is to be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the ShorehamWading River High School Library at 7:00 PM; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that voter registration be open and continuous during normal business hours, until Monday, May 15, 2014 at 5:00 PM at the District Office, 250B Route 25A, Shoreham, New York; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the District Clerk and the School District Attorney prepare the legal notices for the Annual Budget Vote and Elections.

Complete Rehabilitation of the Hamptons, PLLC Amended Contract: WHEREAS, on June 18, 2013, the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District adopted Resolution No. 1213-262 titled Complete Rehabilitation of the Hamptons, PLLC Contract; and WHEREAS, the contract has been amended to now include Assistive Technology Evaluation services; therefore BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves an amendment to the original contract to now include Assistive Technology Evaluation services. The President of the Board is authorized to sign this contract and thereby signify the Boards acceptance to the agreement.

Simply Sensible Entertainment, Inc. Contract: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves a contract between the District and Simply Sensible Entertainment, Inc. to present Feats of Memory (which provides activities to enhance students memorization abilities while enforcing the importance of homework and review) on February 27, 2014 to the 4th and 5th graders at Wading River Elementary School students at a cost of $650.00. The Superintendent is authorized to sign this contract and thereby signify the Boards acceptance to the agreement. DECA State Competition: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves a request by Mr. Dan Holtzman, Principal of SWR High School, for an overnight field trip to Rochester Riverside Convention Center in Rochester, New York from March 4-7, 2014 to allow DECA students to participate in the annual competitive business event at a cost to the District of $2,845.00.
