REGIONAL WINE FESTIVAL 24-26/04/2014 KLARISA BUILDING COMPLEX

Dubrovnik , famous medieval walled city, is a centre of the region where archeological findings
strongly indicate a very rich and intriguing history of cultivating grapes and winemaking, older than 2500 years. On rather small area of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, there are 7 wine growing regions: Peljeac, Konavle, Korula, Lastovo, Mljet, Neretva, Komarna.

W ines of Dubrovnik-Neretva County with protected geographical origin have been recognized
internationally 50 years ago: Dinga (1961), Postup (1967) and Poip (1967). Dubrovnik State Archives keep a physical document, a decision of the Grand Council from 1383, mentioning variety Dubrovaka malvasija. The stories of Plavac mali have traveled the world it is a genetic relative of Zinfandel and Primitivo. The history and importance of wine from Dubrovnik-Neretva County is enormous. Somehow, over the years, Dubrovnik has lost its attribute of being the wine city. This is exactly why Dubrovnik FestiWiNe is created to bring the wine back to Dubrovnik and to bring Dubrovnik back to its wine.

Festival Dubrovnik FestiWiNe will be held in Klarisa building complex (former convent of St.
Claire in the Old Town) from April 24 to 26, 2014. The festival will gather more than 100 regional winemakers who will have the opportunity to present their wines to numerous wine professionals and visitors. The success of winemakers will be assessed by international wine judging team in the week ahead. A conference titled Wine in Tourism will precede the central wine exhibition, where Croatian and international experts will convey their knowledge and experience. Professional-guided wine tasting will be organized per winemakers wishes and interests. In the FestiWiNe week, Dubrovnik caterers, friends of the festival, will serve regional wines at special prices.
