Research Projects

Automate case monitoring in Judicial System of Pakistan to reduce delay in the judicial processes Supervisor: Dr. Muhammad Fareed Zaar Lack of adequate monitoring mechanisms on the part of the superior judiciary is one of

the biggest hindrances that have deed easy solutions in Pakistan. Through an extensive study of a large number of cases from multiple courts that were representative of a typical court caseload, we modeled case-ow as a state transition diagram and applied statistical anomaly based techniques to automatically ag suspicious case. This paper has been accepted in Hawaii International Conference on System Science (HICSS) 2014. Occam: Pre-Virtualization and Program Specialization Supervisor: Dr. Muhammad Fareed Zaar (LUMS) & Dr. Ashish Gehani (SRI) This is a collaborate project between LUMS and Stanford Research Institute. The problem faced is that software stack is increasing in size and results in adverse security implications. We are developing a stable previrtualization tool chain based on LLVM called Occam to shrink the software by specializing it to a specic deployment. Occam provides a variety of tools for partial evaluation, pre-virtualization, dead code elimination, and implementing watch functions. Most importantly, the previrt tool performs comprehensive previrtualization; a process applying a number of passes, including program argument specialization, intra-module specialization, inter-module specialization and dead code elimination. Improving BGP Convergence and Security using SDN and Reassertions Supervisor: Dr. Muhammad Fareed Zaar (LUMS) BGP convergence time is notorious for its unpredictable and unbounded limits. We present a novel way where we dissipate BGP state change messages from multiple Autonomous Systems (ASes) hence multiplying BGP propagation eort. We used OpenFlow enabled BGP speakers spread across the internet to automate this process in an optimal way. We also showed that our scheme helps to mitigate IP prex hijacks and MOAS conicts. We used Oregon RouteViews in our simulations. Our results show that our scheme can signicantly increase BGP propagation and alleviate BGP security issues. Packet Spraying in Context of DataCenters Supervisor: Dr. Ihsan Ayyub Qazi (Phd, Pittsburg) This project is based on implementing packet spraying and its behavior on recently introduced topologies in the context of Datacenter . Its primary purpose is to exhaust all the shortest paths between two servers. To detect the performance improvements we implemented Packet Spraying in NS2 in a fat tree topology. We catered to packet reordering with SRED. We are also applying this idea of packet spraying to Un-EquiCost multipaths to exhaust all possible paths in datacenters with the use latest SDN based centralized view. Smart Ad-Distribution Recommendation System Supervisor:Asim Karim (Phd, Ohio State) Traditional Ad-Distribution Systems do not have the intelligence to cater to a targeted audience. We managed to construct a recommendation system for Advertisement Distribution systems. Our recommendation system improved the accuracy and relevance of ads. The approach we used was to create a similarity metric as a function of location, interest and time. This metric was then used in clustering techniques to create dierent groups of users. These groups can be used by various ad-campaigns to improve their impact and reduce costs. Our evaluation resulted in signicant improvements in click through rates. Course Projects Online Java Editor: A web browser based text editor with the ability to compile and execute code Distributed Password Cracker: A resilient distributed password cracker MIPS 8-bit Single Cycle Processor: Design and hardware implementation of a
