Thanks for checking out my portfolio! I'm excited to hear that you'd like to help!

I have an idea for a small 2D side scrolling action RPG adventure game game called "Robotanical". (robot + botanical).

The game play would be a hybrid between a point-and-click adventure game and a side scrolling action RPG. (imagine a game with combat, movement, graphics, and controls similar terraria or starbound, except without all the sandbox, building, and resource gathering aspects - it would play much more like an action RPG. The game would have a powerful story line, incredible music, and unforgettable characters.

You would move with WASD and Jump with space. There would be a button used for interacting with NPCs and other Objects like doors, levers, and other various interactive objects. Combat would be done with left and right click. You would start out with one basic attack and eventually collect and discover several other attacks, abilities, weapons, and equipment. There would be an inventory screen where you would equip items and equipment. All equipment would be non-robot things.

[Robots - only seen on the robot planet. All the robots are solar powered. The main character is fairly small compared to the rest of the robots. Robot City full of skyscrapers, the city reaches high into the atmosphere. The lower reaches of the city near the surface - dark and gloomy, rust and old junk machinery, lots of powered down (dead) robots who had no sunlight to stay alive. Upper section of the city - shiny and new, wealthy robots live here, lots of sunlight.]

The main character is a cute little solar-powered robot who is mocked and ridiculed his whole life for being small. After spending his whole life in the lower reaches of the city, where sunlight is scarce and life is hard, he decides to flee the planet. After working for wealthy robots in the sunny, upper reaches of the city to earn a living, he eventually saves up enough money to build a small ship. He leaves the planet and spends a month travelling through space. He runs out of fuel and ends up crash landing on a a lush, green planet full of sentient plant creatures and other strange life forms. This is where the game truly begins - everything before this point would be a sort of "cut scene" that plays along with music as the credits are shown.

-----{Prologue}-----[screen fades in from black and you see the robots ship crashed on the ground] The robot is powered down (the bushes are blocking the sunlight from reaching him) lying on the ground next to the damaged remains of his small ship. A small, young-looking plant creature with a rosebud on top of it's head enters the scene and sees the ship. He quickly runs over to it and notices the robot lying under a bush. He pushes the leaves aside, allowing sunlight to touch the robot, and pokes him with a stick. (the robot would be briefly animated with light to indicate that he was being charged by the sunlight, restoring his power/life).

The robot wakes up to the young plant child poking and prodding him. The robot gets up off the ground and looks around at his surroundings. a (?) bubble appears over his head)

The plant child does not seem alarmed by this strange metal creature. He slowly approaches the robot. The robot cautiously backs away. The plant child pauses briefly, and reaches toward the top of his head. He plucks a small leaf from the base of his headbud (the rosebud part of his head) and holds it out toward the robot, offering it to him.

The robot hesitates at first, but slowly approaches the child. He reaches out with his cold, titanium hand, and touches it. Immediately he retracts his hand (similar to how you do when you touch something hot). The plant child again holds the leaf out toward the robot, looking up at him with a warm smile. The robot again reaches out and grabs the leaf. He holds it in his hand and waves it back and forth. A look of confusion flashes across the robots face as he glances down at the plant child.

The plant child points at the leaves on his head and then points at the robot. The Robot then appears to understand what the plant child is motioning him to do (an exclamation point bubble appears over the robot's head). The robot tucks the small leaf into a gap on the back of his head. [ the leaf is now sticking out of the robots head pointed straight up]

The robot looks at the plant child and appears puzzled.

Plant Child: "You look lost..."

The robot nods

Plant Child: "Well... I'm lost, too! We can be friends!"

The robot nods

Plant Child: "I'm Piko - Piko the Brave! I'm the bravest guy I know so you'll be safe with me."

The robot nods

Piko: "I've been all alone out here for about two days now. It will be nice to have someone to talk to!"

The robot nods

Piko: ".....Even though you don't seem to be much of a talker.."

The robot shrugs

Piko: "Did you fall from the sky - In that weird container?"

The robot turns around to look at the ship, and then turns back to the child and nods

Piko: "Well... I'm glad you're okay."

The robot nods

Piko: "Don't you want to know why I'm out here all alone?"

The robot nods

Piko: "I ran away!"

The robot remains still with a blank look on his face

Piko: "Well don't you want to know why?"

The robot nods

Piko: "I'm searching for adventure! I'm trying to prove to everyone that I have what it takes to someday be a Botanian Knight!"

The robot shrugs

Piko: "Oh that's right... you came from the sky. I'll tell you all about it some other time I guess."

The robot nods

Piko: "So.. do you want to go on an adventure with me?"

The robot nods

Piko: "Okay! Today we're going to try to find my secret spot!"

Piko: "I go there when I want to be alone. It's where I practice being brave!"

The robot nods.

Piko: "Only thing is... I kind of forgot where it was.."

Piko: "But that's okay! We have all day to look for it! And besides, now I have someone to keep me company!"

The robot nods

[This is the part where you follow the child to his "secret place" and you learn the basic controls of the game as well as how to move around and get over basic obstacles. A dialogue box appears on screen that instructs the player and teaches them the controls]

[Piko and the robot come to the edge of a dark and gloomy forest.]

Piko:"This is it! We're almost there!"

The robot jumps and has a " :D " expression

Piko:"Hurry! Follow me! It's not far!"

Piko runs off screen in excitement and leaves the robot behind

(from off screen) Piko: "Don't fall behind!"

[the player (robot) continues going right and eventually comes to a small clearing where he finds Piko standing in front of a giant tree stump] [the clearing is lush and green - almost like an oasis - and is surrounded on all sides by the dead and gloomy forest]

The robot approaches Piko

Piko:"This is it.... This is my secret spot!"

[The screen pans upward slowly, going up to the tree tops of the surrounding forest.]

"This is the only spot in the forest where you can see the sun."

[The screen pans slowly back to the ground where Piko and the robot are standing]

Piko:"We Botanians aren't allowed to enter this forest. The King forbids it."

Piko turns to face the robot

Piko:"That's why it's such a great place to be alone! Nobody would ever look for me here!"

The robot nods

Piko:"Don't you want to know why this forest is forbidden?"

The robot nods

[the screen fades black and then fades into a still image - a series of murals that depict the story being told by Piko - similar to the intro of LoZ: Windwaker]

"Inside the Royal Kingdom, in the sacred garden, there is a tree. A very important tree."

"The Great White Tree of Botania"

"A magical essence - the Essence of Eternity - emanates from it's leaves and is carried by the wind throughout the kingdom of Botania"

"its powers keep the land pure, and free from decay"

"but not everything in this world is pure.. The wind can only carry the tree's essence so far."

"The rest of this world is cursed. This forest - and everything else outside the Kingdom of Botania - is shrouded in death, and has slowly began to decay."

"Savage creatures known as Entoids inhabit these decrepit regions."

"The Botanians and the Entoids share a very long and tumultuous past."

"The Entoids and the Botanians once lived in peace however, coexisting in the utopia created by the great tree."

"The Entoids feed on the plants that grow in our kingdom - which is why they seek to take over our kingdom.."

"Our people used to share the land with them, until they grew tired of eating the plants and began to hunt and eat us."

'We banished them from the kingdom and they now hide in the dark, decaying corners of the world"

"The Entoids survive by harvesting small patches of nourished land created by our great tree's essence which is sometimes carried to strange places by sporadic air currents"

"Strange weather patterns are what cause places like this to exist. This small clearing is teeming with life, its as green as the kingdom itself"

[the screen goes back to the robot and Piko]

Piko:"So as you can see... this place is pretty dangerous!"

The robot nods

Piko:"That's why I call myself Piko the Brave!"

Piko:"And.... I suppose you're pretty brave, too - for coming here with me!"

The robot nods

Piko:"By the way... what should I call you?"

The robot shrugs

Piko:"You don't have a name?"

The robot shakes his head no

Piko:"Oh.."

Piko pauses briefly, and then an exclamation bubble appears above his head

Piko:"I know - I'll call you Mokie!"

The robot is excited ( :D )

Piko jumps onto a nearby rock and raises his hand in the air

Piko:"I HEREBY DECLARE!"

Piko:"THAT HE SHALL HENCEFORTH BE KNOWN AS MOKIE!"

Piko:"MOKIE THE BRAVE"

Piko:"FOR HE HAS BRAVELY FOLLOWED ME TO MY SECRET SPOT IN THIS SCARY FOREST"

Piko:"AND HE WAS NOT AFRAID!"

The robot jumps for joy ( :D )

[A warhorn blows from off screen]

Piko and Mokie quickly turn toward the noise

Piko:"That's a Botanian Warhorn! Only the Royal Knights use those!"

Piko:"This is my chance! Maybe they'll see how brave I am and make me a knight!"

Mokie jumps excitedly ( :D )

[A pair of tall, scary insect looking creatures (entoids) enter the clearing]

[Mokie quickly hides behind a bush]

Entoid 1: "What's this, now? A little sprout lost in the forest?"

[Piko jumps down from the rock and backs up toward the stump]

Entoid 2: "Not now! We've got to keep moving or they'll catch us!"

[Piko is trembling with fear with his back against the stump - Mokie remains still and appears lifeless behind the bush]

Entoid 1: "They've already lost us - They probably got scared and turned back"

Entoid 2: "Didn't you hear that horn, you fool? It sounded like they were pretty close behind us"

Entoid 1: "Go on, then! Save yourself! This little guy is about to make me rich!"

[entoid 2 runs off screen] "Have fun getting killed!"

[Entoid 1 slowly approaches Piko with his arms raised up]

Piko: "Stay back! I'm Piko the Brave and I won't hesitate to end you!" [Piko is cowering in fear with his hands over his face]

Entoid 1: "Easy now little guy, I'm not gonna hurt you... No no.... The Grasshopper King is going to want you alive! Heh heh heh..."

[a spear flies from off screen and impales the Entoid, killing it instantly]

[an exclamation point bubble appears above Piko's head as he rushes over to the dead Entoid]

Piko: "That's right, you savage! That's what happens when you mess with --"

From Off screen: "PIKO!"

[a botanian elder enters the clearing, accompanied by 2 Botanian Knights]

[Piko looks alarmed and steps away from the dead Entoid]

Botanian Elder: "That's him! Piko, thank goodness - We've found you!"

[The Knights remain silent and are standing behind the Elder]

Piko: "Father! What are you doing here!?"

Elder: "I should ask you the very same thing!"

Piko: " I uh --" [The elder cuts him off]

Elder: "Save it! We can discuss this when we have you safe at home. Now come along - the sun is beginning to set."

[The elder turns to head home]

[one of the knights yanks the spear out of the dead Entoid's body]

Piko: "Wait!"

[the elder turns around and pauses, facing Piko]

Piko: "What about my friend?"

[the elder and the knights look around, and see nobody]

Elder: "What are you talking about, boy? There's nobody here but us!"

[Mokie comes out from behind the bushes, revealing himself to the elder and the two knights]

[the elder and the knights have exclamation bubbles above their heads and the knights raise their spears]

Elder: "Piko - what is this?"

Piko: "This is Mokie - Mokie the Brave!"

Elder: "Did he kidnap you!? Is this why you're out here in the forest?"

[The knights step forward with their spears pointed forward]

Piko: "No! No!" "He's my friend! He came from the sky!"

Elder: "What do you mean he came from the sky?" "Does it speak?"

Piko: "No - I don't think he can.." "And I'll show you! Follow me! I'll take you to his container - its just beyond the forest!"

[the screen fades to black as they walk off screen]

[the screen fades back in from black as they enter the area where the robot's ship crashed]

Piko: "This is it! This is where I found him!"

[The elder walks over to the ship - the knights remain behind Piko and Mokie]

[The elder turns to face the group]

Elder: "Is this true, creature?" Is this where you came from?"

[Mokie nods]

Piko: "His name is Mokie, father!"

Elder: "Tell me Mokie... Did you travel here in this strange box?" Did you come from a far away land?"

[mokie nods]

Elder: "I'm not sure who you are, or why you're here, but the king would probably like to meet you."

[Mokie jumps excitedly]

[the group walks off screen and the screen fades to black]

[the screen fades in from black and they group walks into the royal chamber of the king]

[The elder, Piko, and Mokie stand at the end of a long red carpet - the two knights approach the king and appear to quietly speak with the king]

[The two knights turn around face the group, standing on the sides of the royal throne]

King: "You may approach the throne." [he motions the group over to him]

[the group walks over to the king - it takes a few seconds - the red carpet is long]

[Piko and his father bow graciously and stand before the king with mokie standing behind them]

King: "What business have you?" "Speak Quickly!"

Elder: "Your majesty, I was with two of your knights... we were searching for my son, Piko. We found him in the --" [the king cuts him off]

King: "--Go on - get to it! I have affairs to tend to!"

[Piko steps forward]

Piko: "I made a friend!" "His name is Mokie!"

[the elder and piko step aside, allowing Mokie to step forward]

King: "And... how exactly did you come to meet this... "Mokie"...?"

Piko: "I found him sleeping by his container!"

King: "His container..?" "What are you talking about?"

Elder: "I think he came from another planet, your majesty. The container my son is referring to was likely how he got here - I think he crashed."

King: "Alright. You and your son may leave. I have some questions for our new friend."

Piko: "Bye Mokie..."

[Piko and his father turn and leave the king's chamber]

King: "Tell me, Mokie.. Why do you wear a leaf on your head?" " Are you trying to disguise yourself as one of us?"

[Mokie shakes his head no]

King: "Are you a SPIE!?"

[Mokie shakes his head no]

King: "I cannot trust you! I know absolutely nothing about you - but I know this: You aren't one of us. You do not belong in this kingdom!" "Guards! Kindly Escort this fellow out of our kingdom!" [the king does a "shoo!" motion with his hand]

[The knights nod and approach Mokie, grab him, and take him out of the chamber. the screen fades to black]

[the screen fades in from black and the knights are facing Mokie - they are back at his crashed ship outside the kingdom]

Knight 1: "You're on your own now." "I'd suggest staying far away from Botania - the King doesn't seem very fond of you."

Knight 2: "If you try entering the Kingdom you'll find yourself in trouble.. I don't want to have to hurt you but I have to obey orders. I'd also stay out of that forest you were in earlier.. the Entoids aren't known for being friendly."

Knight 1: "Here - take this."

[Knight 1 hands Mokie a spiked club, a long branch with thorns on the end]

Knight 1: "This is a Botanian Thornmace. It might come in handy if you run into trouble.."

[Mokie appears puzzled (a question mark bubble is over his head)]

Knight 2: "Perhaps you should show him how to use it."

Knight 1: "Mokie - that's your name, right?"

[Mokie nods]

Knight 1: "Okay - try giving that thornmace a swing. Like this!" [knight 1 swings his weapon]

[a dialogue box appears on screen that instructs the player how to use weapons and introduces them to basic combat mechanics]

[after following the on screen instructions:]

Knight 1: "That's it! You're a natural!" " You be safe now! We've got to head back to the kingdom."

Knight 2: "We're being friendly right now - but remember - if you're caught in the kingdom, you'll surely run into trouble!"

[Mokie nods]

Knight 1: "Good luck!"

Knight 2: "You might want to stay in your.... box.. for the rest of the night. No telling what dangers you'll run into out here after dark."

[Mokie Nods]

[the two knights turn and walk off screen]

----{Chapter 1 - Alone in the Wilderness} ----

The robot become friends. You soon find out that this little plant child is lost and the two become companions. Eventually they reach a small settlement and the village elders are alarmed at the sight of the robot. The robot child explains that he means no harm, and that he helped him find his way home.

[skipping a bunch of story]

eventually the robot comes to a giant plant city, and the plant king finds him to be ugly and unnatural, says he has no place in the realm of nature and beauty, and exiles him to the forests beyond the borders of the plant nation. "You have no leaves, petals, vines, roots, or stems... You are not one of us - you never will be."

This saddens the robot. The plant kings royal guards escort him to the forest and leave him there. He picks up some leaves off the ground and tucks them into the small gaps in his arm sockets. He looks at his reflection in a puddle and sees the wilted leaves. He sees himself as he always has - as an outcast. one of the leaves falls off and hits the puddle, blocking the view of his reflection. He takes off the rest of the leaves and slowly meanders into the forest with no friends and no place to call home.

The robot eventually runs into a giant caterpillar asleep in the forest. blah blah blah eventually he finds out that the insects are the enemies of the plant people. The Grasshopper King (after eventually reaching the insect city) hears of how the plant people rejected him and exiled him to the forest (insect territory) and welcomes him as one of his own.

At first he is happy and he is given a small home of his own on the edge of the forest. The small plant child from the beginning of the tale eventually finds the robot and tells him that he left his village and has been looking for him for days.

He offers to let the child stay with him in his home but the plant child warns the robot that if the insects find out about their friendship they will both surely be killed. The child plant a small seed outside the robot's home and tells him to water it every day. "soon this seed will grow into a Communicacia tree" (communicate + acacia tree ). The child point at the ground and slowly points toward the distant plant kingdom.

The child says: "The roots of this tree will connect with the roots of all the other Communicacia Trees in the kingdom this is how we will keep in touch. You aren't like these insects.. there is good in you - I have seen it. You don't belong in this forest.

The only Sandbox elements I want to add are:

1.) The ability to customize what the robot looks like (decorating his dull, titanium exterior with foliage, war paint, and various other vanity items found throughout the game)

2.) The ability to grow plants on a small patch of fertile soil. You would be limited to growing a certain number of plants which would give the player a chance to form their own strategies - possibly given option to grow more at a time as the game progresses. For instance - different types of ammo for Botaniguns (plant guns) could be grown. Different plants would yield different types of seeds, which act as different types of ammo - fire ammo, poison ammo, basic ammo, rootgrab ammo, Burst-bud ammo (small, premature flower buds that act as rockets for a rocket launcher-type Botanigun), and many many more. Each type of ammo would grow from a certain type of plant. These types of plants could be found throughout the game and certain types would only work with certain weapons. Also - some melee weapons would have a limited amount of uses, and would eventually break. You could grow these in the same way you grow ammo plants. For instance - Bamboo shoots, roses (for thorny stems), vines (whip-type weapon), etc.

other weapon ideas: boomerang (http://tinyscience.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/seed.jpg)

Bow (flexible stick combined with strong spiderweb strand)

mushroom bombs (different type of mushrooms)

a big leaf that would be fanned to blow things and/or enemies away

a vine type thing that would work like a grappling hook

magical seeds that are thrown on the ground and quickly sprout into summoned plant minions
