Pakistan is on the borders of both Indian and Eurasian plate. This causes massive earthquakes in the country. These two plates have collision boundaries, this means that they move towards each other, meanwhile pushing land up from the sea. Since Pakistan is on these two plates, the country is very prone to earth quakes and other disasters such as tsunamis. Two major earth quakes happened recently, one in 2008, one very recent in 2013. On 24 September 2013, Baluchistan, an earthquake with the magnitude of 7.7 hit Pakistan. The earthquake was extremely powerful, killing around 825 and leaving hundreds more injured. Not only this though more than 100,000 are now homeless, over 21,000 houses were completely destroyed and an even greater amount have been badly damaged and have been said to be unlivable. Many farms were destroyed along with a few villages. Due to the earth quake and years of collision, the two plates Pakistan lye on have made an island. This island was a blessing and a curse due to expanding Pakistan land, giving the country more real estate and awareness of the country though at the same time the island had killed around 40 fisher men and many sea life. This island was seen of the shore of Pakistan not long after the earthquake. Locals were not alarmed as many islands pop up though vanish over time. When the word got out, scientists were sent in to investigate and found that the island was mostly made of rock though with some patches of dirt. Fauna is living on the island at the moment though these are only insects, seagulls and fish, though some time in the future there will be flora either due to plants growing on its own or planted by locals. The government surprisingly didnt try to adapt the country to future earthquakes or other disasters that may occur due to the 2008 earthquake, which, was quite catastrophic. Many say that it is due to the countrys poor economy, though a local Pakistani stated Yes, our country is poor and may not have the best buildings, though this is not the reason for us not to have more protection! Our government is lazy and greedy! They want to keep the money and spend it for themselves instead of helping their people! Though not a big response, the government of Pakistan have made some improvement to the locals housing by adding hand-made bricks. This had helped the country slightly when in the 2013 earthquake, the houses had held a bit longer, though still as expected, collapsed. The people of the country learnt how to react to a disaster in 2008 which helped them in 2013. The country is still recovering heavily due to this disaster being only a month ago for example, locals still live in camps and the country is limited in doctors, food and water.

These earthquakes are similar in different ways one of them being the damage they had caused:

They were both very severe to the country and had quite an effect on it, the country had not recovered straight away from the two earthquakes though richer countries and more prepared countries would have. The two disasters had also caught the worlds attention earning Pakistan some fame and money due to the news and donations. Both earthquakes were both quite recent and were both caused by the Eurasian and Indian plate colliding, they were both felt in the surrounding countries such as: India, Iran, Afghanistan and even as far as the UAE and Oman. Both earthquakes had occurred around the same time of year, could this help us plan when the next earthquake will happen? These two earthquakes were very different in many ways. They were different magnitudes, the 2013 earthquake was extremely powerful at 7.7 while the 2008 earth quake was less powerful at 6.4.There were more causalities in the most recent earthquake which killed around 620 more people than the 2008 earthquake killed, in a way the damages in the 2013 earthquake were more severe as the damage from the previous earthquake had already taken place, so buildings which had not collapsed already are weaker and collapsed with great force, along with the new buildings!
