CHAPTER 3 3.0 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 3.1 INTRODUCTION This section discusses the methodology of the research.

The main purpose of the survey was to investigate, and examine the level of awareness of the biomass energy among Malaysian. To assess and evaluate the awareness, a set of questionnaire by online as a survey instrument is prepared. Data for the research were collected through questionnaire only. Expected 7 respondents are selected randomly as the sample of the population.

3.2 RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS This research utili!es both the quantitative and qualitative research methodology. The instrument used to collect the data is by questionnaires. " set of questionnaire containing #$ questions divide into $ sections that develop based on questionnaire use previously by another study. There are three question types, which are ran%ing, yes&no and multiple&answer that used in the questionnaire. The different section of the questionnaire is' i( )asic information of respondent, ii( *evel of awareness of respondent on biomass and iii( +pinion and attitude of respondent regarding biomass energy solution ,ilot study was held among classmate. The pilot study was distributed in online group using social networ%ing mainly called -aceboo%. .everal part of the questionnaire was improvised based on the comments and feedbac%s. /t was then chec%ed by Dr. .ha!win for improvement and to ensure the validity of further analysis regarding on the level of awareness before it was distributed through online via email and social networ%ing.

The qualitative data for the research came from questionnaire. /t is from section 0 where the respondents delivered their opinion regarding issues on biomass energy solution based on the multiple&answer question. There are $ question and the question&types are ran%ing and open&ended questionnaire.

3.3 RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY The respondent of the study are randomly selected, basically Malaysian. There will be respondents randomly selected consist of our classmate, family, friends, and relatives. /n total, it is expected to be 7 respondents. 7 respondents were made as sufficient data to be collected based on recommendation made by our lecturer, Dr. .ha!win.

3.4 RESEARCH PROCEDURE -rom the studies that we1ve been done, a questionnaire with #$ questions was developed. -irstly, before the actual data collection period, a pilot study was conducted to assess the validity of the survey instruments. " total of #2 respondents were involved in the pilot study at random. The pilot study then was chec%ed by lecturer, Dr. .ha!win for further improvement. During the actual study period, the questionnaires were distributed among classmate, family, friends and relatives via email and social networ%ing. The lin% of questionnaire also was passed to several acquaintances to be widely distributed. "fter the survey reached the target number of respondent, the data was analy!ed for the next process.

3.5 DATA ANALYSIS To analyses the data, we have used the coding technique, which was Microsoft Excel and tabulate the graph into information. "ll the data was presented according to the result of questionnaire.
