Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to: a. recall the format used for an application letter b. listen to others with respect c. write an application letter Subject Matter a. Preliminaries i. Prayer ii. Classroom Order iii. Checking of Attendance iv. Greetings and Courtesies v. Reviewing of Previous Lesson b. Activating Prior Knowledge i. Ask the students if theyve ever written a letter before; if so, what kind of letter, what did they wrote about, and why ii. Ask them if they could still remember the different parts of the letter they wrote iii. Ask them if they could remember the format c. Listening Activity i. Tell the students that you are going to read a letter. ii. Have them listen and pay close attention so they could write down specific information. They are guided by these questions: 1. What do you know about the sender? 2. What do you know about the receiver? 3. How did the sender address the receiver? 4. What was the message of the letter about? 5. How did the sender end his/her message? iii. Read the letter and repeat only once if necessary. d. Analysis i. Ask them the guide questions and then write the information they got on the board. Supply the lacking information.

ii. Post the application letter format/template on the board. iii. Have them fill the application letter template using the information on the board. iv. Correct errors if there are any. v. Ask them what type of letter they think it is and why vi. Then have a short discussion on the parts of the letter and tips on how to write it. e. Generalization i. Ask them what the parts of an application letter ii. Ask them what an application letter is, for what is it used, and why is it used iii. Ask them the importance of writing an application letter iv. Generalize that writing an application letter is a formal way of saying to the receiver that we want that specific job. They wont listen to you with respect if you just yell at them outside their office. Respect is something that you deserve if you work for it. Just like when sharing ideas with others, you should be respected by being listened to. If you dont want others to ignore you when you want to say something to them, then you should listen to others with respect especially when they have something to say too. Body of Application Letter The body of your application letter lets the employer know what position you are applying for, why the employer should select you for an interview, and how you will follow-up.

First Paragraph The first paragraph of your letter should include information on why you are writing. Mention the job you are applying for and where you found the job listing. Include the name of a mutual contact, if you have one.

Middle Paragraph(s) The next section of your application letter should describe what you have to offer the employer. Mention specifically how your qualifications match the job you are applying for. Remember, you are interpreting your resume, not repeating it.

Final Paragraph Conclude your application letter by thanking the employer for considering you for the position. Include information on how you will follow-up.
