Lesson 4 and 5 In todays lessons we began to look at the interpretation of the immortals and the way Oberon and

Titania are portrayed as being fairies, their relationship and their situation. Oberon is angry with Titania as she is spending all her time with a changeling boy and will not give him over to Oberon to be used as a henchman. He could be considered to be quite spiteful in exacting his revenge upon her. Well, go thy way. Thou shalt not from this grove Till I torment thee for this injury (Act 2 Scene 1, Line 146-147). Titania accuses Oberon of being jealous These are the forgeries of jealously (Act 2 Scene 1, Line 81). Oberon is powerful but Titania appears to be just as headstrong and they seem equally matched. We know they have had a good relationship up until now as he and Titania would; dance our ringlets to the whistling wind (Act 2 Scene 1 Line 86). To help us develop the way the immortals talk we had a look at iambic pentameter. Iambic pentameter refers to a certain kind of line of poetry, and has to do with the number of syllables in the line and the emphasis placed on those syllables. Many of Shakespeares works are often used as great examples of iambic pentameter and he uses it in A.M.N.D to show a clear distinction of the immortals as he shows each line as a 10 syllables, this shows that the immortals speak more poetically and they show a distinct difference between immortal and mortality. The activity we were given was to interpret the duo with an extraction in its classical language as well as contemporary language, we were told to use music to heighten the shift between speech. Overall Cameron and I were paired and I was Oberon where he was Titania. We were attempting to create a clear hierarchy of power between the two immortals, and the best way to demonstrate this was using elastic, the elastic created a puppet like effect which was good as it shows the clear control that Titania has and that the struggle for power is imminent.

We delivered the lines in Shakespearian language first with no music, to clearly highlight the seriousness of conflict. Then to convey the switch to contemporary language and attitude, we used the song happy by Pharrell Williams I think the mood was clear from the medium of music and the contemporary language used making this a success.

WWW. This lesson was a good way to look at the immortals and I learnt how to adopt my acting style in more than one way, the characters we played were convincing and I thought we made a good distinct difference between contemporary and classical dialogue EBI. Keeping disciplined in performance is probably the only thing I could say to improve on, and that is my target for future lessons.
