Subject: Fraser Copper Zone Boltin2 and Screenin2 Standards for
BURST PRONE GROUND IN CUT & FILL STOPES
The following standards are to be considered the "Minimum Requirements" unless
ground conditions indicate a need for additional or different support. Exceptions to this
minimum will be indicated on the mine layout as required.
.:. Where the potential for rock bursting is high, the area will be designated as burst
prone. All Burst Prone areas will be indicated on the Stope Layout.
Back Support:
.Install 7- ft mechanical bolts and rebars throughout, as shown in Fig. 1.
.Ensure that the back is screened with 5'x 10' sheet, #9 Gauge, 3" x 3" welded mesh
screen from shoulder to shoulder across the back, and to the face. Install a minimum
of2 rebars per screen on a 3-2-3 pattern, as in Fig. 2.
.Mesh Strapping and 7-ft rebar must be installed in the FW-Back comer of Stope
heading, as indicated in Fig. 1.
.Ensure continuous overlap with mesh strapping.
.Do NOT use Gripper plates to secure mesh strapping in ground conditions designated
as "Burst Prone".
Wall Support:
.Bolt and screen F/W to approx. 1.5m above the floor.
.Bolt and screen H/W to approx. 2.4m from the floor.
.Install 5'xlO' sheet, #9 Gauge, 3"x3" welded mesh screen with 5-ft Split Sets or 4-ft
mechanical bolts, 6 bolts per screen as shown in Fig. 3.
.4-ft Split Sets may be used if heading is too narrow to instal15-ft Split Sets.
.Install mesh strapping along the bottom edge of F/W screen (Figs 1 & 3). Ensure
continuous overlap with mesh strapping.
.Double plate and nut on mesh strapping along the wall.
.Do NOT use 18" Split Sets to secure mesh strapping.
.Wall screen must be carried to the face.
Face Support:
.Bolt and screen the face, one (1) screen down from the back with #9 Gauge 3"x 3"
welded mesh and 5-ft Split Sets or 4-ft mechanical bolts. Installation of face
support is dependent on local stress conditions
Double Plates and Nuts:
.Double plate and nut mesh strapping to assist in the installation process in Burst
Prone ground.
.Install double plates and nuts on the welded mesh screen in areas next to the face
where the blast is more likely to tear off the Gripper plates.
.Do NOT use Gripper plates to secure screen mesh strapping in Ground conditions
designated as "Burst Prone".

BOLT IDENTIFICATION
.:. The length of a mechanical bolt and rebar can be determined after installation by the
shape of the collar end. The bolt is tapered, thread relieved, beveled, or square-cut, as
shown in the following illustrations.

.4-ft. bolt with thread relieved end (actual length 4 ft 0 in).
.6-ft bolt with sQuare cut end (actual length 5 ft 6 in).
.7-ft bolt with slotted end (actual length is 7 ft).
.8-ft bolt with tapered end (actual length 7 ft 6 in).
Resin Rebar
.6-ft rebar with hole drilled in tapered end (actual length 5 ft 11 in).
.7-ft rebar with slotted end (actual length is 7 ft).
.8-ft rebar with tapered end (actual length 7 ft 6 in).
.All rebars can be identified by the dome nut and flat washer used for installation.
Friction Anchored Stabilizer
.The 5-ft and 4-ft SS-33 Split Sets (Ingersoll-Rand) can be identified by a small round
ring welded at the collar.
GENERAL NOTES
INSTALLATION REOUIREMENTS
Hole diameter is critical for proper bolt installation. h1 the case of the SS-33 split set, the
borehole diameter must be 31 to 33 mm. The following list shows the borehole diameter
for the different bolt types.
Support Type Description Borehole Diameter
Mechanical bolts 5/8" diameter, F3F 1-1/4" Anchor 1-1/4" (33mm) diameter
Rebar 3/4" diameter, threaded rebar 1-1/4" (33mm) diameter
Friction Anchored SS-33 Split Set, 1.3" (33 mm) dia. -1-1/4" (31-33 mm) dia.
