2 The figure below shows a car of mass 1000 kg moving along a section of track. Its
engine produces a thrust of 15 000 N. The air resistance acting on the car is

3 A ball of mass 0.8 kg is rolled up a frictionless slope with an initial speed of 8 m/s.
The ball comes to a stop after 5 s.

Assuming g = 10 N/kg, calculate

4 Fig. 4 below shows a metre rule of mass 150 g that is pivoted at its midpoint. A
200 g mass is placed at the 20 cm mark while 50 g and 100 g masses are placed
at the 70 cm and 90 cm marks. A force F is exerted at the 40 cm mark.

9 (a) State 2 differences between boiling and evaporation. [2]

(b) (i) Peter wishes to construct his own electric water heater and places
the heating element near the top of the heater tank. State, giving
your reasons, if he has made the right decision. [4]

(ii) Explain why a shiny pot loses heat energy more quickly when it is
dirty. [1]

(c) Liquids, when freezing, remain at a constant temperature. Explain why this
is so. [3]

10 (a) Sketch a graph showing the voltage/current (V/I) relationship between


voltage and current in a metallic conductor and explain its shape. [4]

(b) Wire A has a resistance of 4 Ω has a cross-sectional area A and a length


of l. Calculate the resistance of the wire if its

(i) length is doubled [1]

(ii) area is doubled [1]

(c) 3 different resistors, of resistance 8 Ω, 10 Ω and 12 Ω are connected as


shown in the circuit below, Fig 10.1.

(d) You are provided with three 5 Ω resistors. Draw a circuit diagram showing
