Programme Overview
10.10 – 11.00 Going for Gold
Jimmy Petruzzi, Olympic Performance Coach
World renowned Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Trainer and Beijing Olympics’
Coach, Jim Petruzzi of NLP Centre of Excellence will take you on a journey through
NLP and will explore the relationship between how we think, how we communicate, our
patterns of behaviour and our emotions. You will get hands-on experience of some of the
NLP techniques meaning you will learn skills immediately transferable to the workplace
and personal life, to influence and improve results in all aspects of your business.
This workshop will discuss connectivity and system design options available for installers
and AV Managers, specific to large building design. The foundation of the presentation
will refer to a real life application of a 40 teaching room building. We will look at twisted
pair cabling solutions, and how they have complemented traditional coax solutions.
We will look at how support staff and end users can both gain from an integrated, on
demand service. We will explore how networking IT solutions are helping support AV
services, from KVM, IP Controlled hardware, Intelligent PSU, VOIP telephony, and even
advantages of POE (POL) devices.
The Competitive Dialogue Procedure was introduced in 2006 and has attracted a lot of
interest. The University of Manchester have used the process twice and Ian has been
involved on both occasions. The session hopes to provide some experiences and views
on the practical use of the procedure.
We are starting to read about more legal challenges to procurement decisions. In the
largest UK case so far, a framework agreement worth £850m was set aside and it’s back
to the start again. While your contracts and frameworks will not be of this magnitude
– the principles ruled upon by the courts are applicable to your day-to-day tendering
activities. This will be a practical session, looking at applying the lessons learnt from
recent judgements.
Glyn is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham Business School, his session
will focus on some of the major causal factors behind the current economic crisis and the
impact for procurement.

1 Further Competition
Florence Gregg, Procurement Consultant
The NWUPC (and you) set up framework agreements and, sometimes, framework
contracts. How should they be used? And, in particular, when and how do you run
mini-competitions to select a contractor? This will be a practical session using existing
NWUPC frameworks to illustrate their use.
This workshop will look at world-class performance within the public sector and will
include value for money, supplier relationship management, long-term contracting,
partnering and making suppliers accountable for their non-performance.
Does procurement need creativity? Or is creativity soft fluffy stuff that you can do
without? This interactive session will look at the need for creativity and innovation in
procurement and will explore techniques which will illustrate how creativity can had value
and enjoyment to your work.
The afternoon workshop will allow a more informal, opportunity to discussion, and see
some of the products discussed in the morning session, and talk to technical staff who
actually design, support and maintain this type of integrated solution.
