1. General
The GP-1850/W series display unit consists of the following components. Parts Name MAIN board Function The board, heart of the unit consits of a CPU, ROM, RAM, Card Interface circuit, a buzzer and a lithium battery. The board generates high voltage for LCD backlighting. The difference between A, B, E, and F is system program only. The board includes power supply and echosounder circuits. The board consists of key switches and backlight LEDs. The receiver receives and processes satellite signal for position fix. The receiver receives radiobeacon DGPS to remove errors in GPS position fix. High voltage for LCD backlighting is derived from J101 on MAIN board to Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light (CCFL) in the LCD unit.

3. Remove the shield cover, and unplug J2, J4 and J6 on MAIN board. The MAIN board is battery backupped, so it is recommended that before removing MAIN board, disconnect either lead of JP6 not to damage the components on the board by a short circuit. With JP6 disconnected, the board is not battery backupped.

5. How to install DGPS beacon receiver

Refer to the installation manual.

6. Replacing lithium battery

To replace the battery with new one, follow the steps below. 1. Disconnect JP6 on MAIN board. See Fig.5. 2. Use a desoldering tool to remove the battery from MAIN board. 3. Solder the replacement battery onto the board. 4. Solder JP6. CAUTION 1) Replace the battery only with CR2450-F2 ST2L (000-144-941). 2) Never short + and sides of the cell. 3) The lithium cell may explode resulting in a fire or chemical burn if mistreated. Do not recharge, disassemble heat, or incinerate. 4) Follow local ordinances or regulations for the disposal.

1) By using PC The following explains how to upgrade the software by using a PC. The up boot upgradation is carried out only when requested. Before upgradation The batch file up_boot. bat is designed for the use of COM2 port of the PC. When COM 1 port is used, the batch file needs to be modified by using a text editor application such as Note Pad. The last number is changed from 2 to 1 when COM 1 port is used. Uppg load. bin GPXXXX. 0 0 1 0 0 0 2

Procedure 1. Copy all files in EXE files to PC. 2. Connect the COM port of the PC to the DGPS port of the plotter.

Fig. 7(b) Connection with PC (25 pin Dsub) 3. Run up_boot. bat on PC. The message TAEGET POWER ON appears on the display. 5. Turn on the plotter. You hear three beeps (pi pi pi) and the message Execute STEP1 appears. 6. Then a beep sounds and the message Execute STEP2 appears. It takes about 5 minutes to complete steps 4 and 5. 7. When the message Finish version up appears, the upgradation of the boot software is completed. 8. Turn off the plotter. If the up-boot procedure fails, the plotter must be reset by downloading the software from a master program card. 8. Run CTOOL_E.EXE on PC. The CTOOL_E.EXE creates following files. Models GP-1850/1850D GP-1850W/1850WD GP-1850F/1850DF GP-1850WF/1850WDF File name 1850e. BAT, CU1850e. BAT, LOAD. BIN, UPPG EXE 1640fe. BAT, CU1850fe. BAT, LOAD. BIN, UPPG EXE

9. Run either batch file, C1850 BAT or C185e.BAT according to the model to get the binary file (Cxxxe.BIN). 10. Then, run either batch file, CU1850e. BAT or CU1850fe.BAT according to the model. 11. Turn on the plotter when the message TARGET POWER ON appears on the PC.

2) By using program master card The following describes how to update the software by using the master card. 1. Insert Program master card into the slot. 2. Turn on the power. NOW LOADING message appears. 3. When loading is completed, the message PLEASE REMOVE A CARD AFTER POWER SUPPLY CUTS appears on the display. Then, the power is automatically turned off. If the power is turned off without the message, the program loading is failed. Repeat above steps.

8. How to upgrade system program

The software is updated by following the procedure below. 1) By using PC Take steps 8 to 11 in the previous section. The Navionics version program files do not include a letter C. 2) By using program master card The procedure is the same as the previous section.
