 Going into Residential Care

If you are thinking about moving into residential care, the first step is to have a
Needs Assessment. A Needs Assessment will ensure all possible options for
staying at home are explored before residential care is recommended.
The Needs Assessment and Service Co-ordination service (NASC) should be
involved in every entry to residential care, either from your home or public
hospital. If long term care is required a Needs Assessor will recommend the
appropriate level of care for you.
NASC also help with transfers between rest homes and hospitals, making sure
the funding transfers too.

If you are applying for a Residential Care Subsidy or a Residential Loan, your
Needs Assessor will provide the application form and authorise it. You are
responsible for completing the financial information and posting it to:
Work & Income New Zealand, P 0 Box 9032, Whangarei
You can phone Work & Income on 0800 999 727 with any financial questions.
There is no public funding for convalescent care. This means you will have to
meet all costs. Request a written summary of charges.
